    Not a sound investment?
It could very well be a viable investment for those that grab a 2017 before they are gone, especially a unicorn 6MT.

Say he buys a 2017, keeps the miles down on it until the 2018's flood the streets. If all goes good for the TSS added features with folks modding their trucks, no change in the 2017 resale value.

If the 2018's prove to be a pain in the arse for mods like lifts, bumpers, lights, towing etc... then I would suspect that those 2018 owners will probably want to dump it and go back to a 2017. Now, if there just happens to be some VERY VERY low mileage 2017's out there, their street values may sky rocket.

Now on the other hand, if said end of year 2017 purchaser decided in say April that the 2018's are all the rage with no issues, his VERY low mileage truck will have a higher resale than say a beginning of the year 2017 truck will have for trade in, or private sale.

Remember this is just my personal opinion/view on Tacoma economics.

I just picked up a 2017 because I heard the 18s were going to have the safety crap on it. All it does is make bad drivers even worse. You can be assured someone is going to think they can text cuz the car keeps them in the lane.

Not to mention, it just more electronic stuff that will break down, 2 years after the warranty, and be expensive to repair.

No new vehicle is a 'sound investment', regardless of model year.

Only frequent traders gain any value in a more current model.

On a common vehicle (which Tacomas are), if you kept the vehicle for 10-15 years and 100-150k miles, 1 model year difference at that point is pretty insignificant.
