The dealers in my state have the option to slap a dealer plate on any vehicle and drive it home if they so choose, and they do. They can provide someone with any car on the lot for the use of loaner for work done. While OP had a second vehicle he could use not everyone is that fortunate and not everyone knows to press a dealer because sometimes they give BS answers.

I'm not saying they need to drop everything and get a technician out to the shop then and there but a happy customer is a repeat customer. Imagine living in any of these southern states in your new vehicle and have your AC kick out, Memorial Day weekend, which means HOT.

I agree with you. If for some reason they couldn't get a loaner they should at least offer to find substitute transportation. As long as there's a backup vehicle to use it's fine, for those of us with only 1, that can be an issue.

Update. Dealer kept my truck 2 days and said that they refilled refrigerant and it started working properly. They tested all lines and components, did not detect any leaks in the system. While working on Tacoma they provided loaner. So one freaky issue so far with my taco. I hope it will not happen again.

Did they add die to the system? Toyota doesn't add die to the AC system and when the system fails it's impossible to find the issue if it's a slow leak. Because they didn't find a problem you will probably be back. Hopefully they added die to help trace where the leak is.

Yeah, AC systems don't magically fix themselves. That issue will be back. Check for oily residue on the lines and at the condenser (and other connections you can see). If nothing is seen and it loses refrigerant again, they will need to look at the evaporator in the dash.

factory side step, didn't get a chance to do anything to it yet, haven't even got to put it in 4 wheel mode yet. Lame, but I work a lot.
I have had a problem with mine since the first day and am really frustrated with the dealer. After driving for an hour it stops blowing. I can tell it’s cold inside, but nothing come out of the vent. It will also periodically blow cold air when the air conditioner is turned off. They replaced the blower but it hasn’t fixed the problem.

The problem is likely a cracked in the evaporator. Because its hidden and hard to get to technicians miss it. Tacoma had a problem with some of their evaporarors from new.

So year later AC malfunctioned again. It was nice out yesterday and I decided to cool down little bit. And turned AC on, but no cold air again. I am little frustrated due to that issue and last year they did not find problem it started working after they recharged AC system. I dropped it to dealer and was told that they might have to charge 159$ for diagnostics. Will see what they will find later today.

I stand by my first diag. They just didn't find it the first time and recharged it. Did they ever give you and explanation of what the issue was the first time? I would absolutely refuse to pay for diag time because of their incompentency.

Service rep did not charged me for diagnostics. They recharged AC system and added dye and asked to return after 2000 miles. I wounder why they never did it last year. Will see what they find after next visit

If they added die they should be able to find the die present in the ac drain tube on the heater box on your next visit. The refrigerant use in the 18 Tacoma is R1234 which is very expensive.

Here we go again. Brought truck to dealer on Wednesday 05/01 got loaner (yaris) and was "done" Friday 05/03. They found a leak in evaporator assembly and replaced the unit. Yesterday I was happy to have my truck back and wanted to make sure that everything works. No heat! It was blowing warm air and windows were fogging up from full heat on and recycle on. Today I got my temp meters on from kitchen on from shed. Highest i was able to get was 106F degrees with both temp meters. I went to my wife's Nissan and warmed vehicle up heat meter went up to 160F. Started doing quality control of their work: rag left under the hood, rubber seal was not put back properly on passenger door, scratch mark on plastic corner piece. Called service manager and now waiting for call back. I would think that Toyota mechanics are certified? Unless they were celebrating "Sinco de mayo" early...

Look at your work order and see if there is a technician number or name. When you go back to the dealer look on the wall and see if you can see his credentials. Toyota techs are certified and only certified tech can work on Toyota vehicles but sometimes the dealerships can be a little dodgy.

You have a leak and unless they fixed it mechanically, it will return. Do not let them put any type of 'sealer' in the system. UV dye is OK. Are you still under warranty?

You might want to check your coolant level.

Was at dealer this morning. No heat was caused by air pocket in heating system when they dissembled HVAC system. They cleared it ant heat worked fine. They did wheel alignment too. It was way off. I wonder if mechanic took it for extended off road test drive from 05/01 to 05/03 or they dropped it of the lift. Came home and something is still wrong with HVAC. I verified that compressor is engaging and disengaging, drain is clear it drips but AC temp is not constant it changes from 46f to 55f, outside is 63f. Checked 3 other cars and AC was 33f to 39f. Something is still not right. Will drive for few days and take it back again if temperature does not stabilize.
Picture taken this morning on the highway trip back to dealer. Can see clearly that it is not where it should be.
