2017 Super White Tacoma DCSB TRD OR
Hey guys, been lurking the forum a bit and finally decided to join and make a thread. Sadly it isn't the best forum intro thread. Bought a 2017 DCSB TRDOR in super white 2 weeks ago and yesterday I prepared it for a coat of jet seal and wax. To my dismay I found these spots on the paint that did NOT come off during the light clay step. It was dark when I picked the truck up so I missed it. Those dots are speckled all around the lower parts of the truck and a spot on the tailgate. Looks like rust. Picking my plates from the dealer today and going to bring it up.

I have a little bit of this 'rail dust' as well that a clay bar won't remove. Let me know what your dealer does about it.

There was a post about this a few months ago. Turns out it was caused by tire shine breaking down the tire and slinging it onto the paint.

Interesting, that is why I use 303 aerospace protectant on my tires instead. Not as shiny or wet looking as the silicone stuff but less damaging to the tire.

They also said it's rail dust. I have to drop it off next week and it's going to take a day or so to get it done. I guess they tried a quick polish to see if it would come off and it wouldn't. I hope they give me a decent loaner lol.

If it was just tire shine it shouldve just came off during the wash stage or when I clayed it. It didn't so after running my fingertips over it a few times I could tell it wasn't on top of the paint. Instead maybe in the clear, or was clear coated over.

I have some staining that didn't come off with clay, iron-x, or any manner of buffing...

Same area, low down on the anti chip coating. Any rail dust I had came off easy though. :notsure:

Take a deep breath OP, as others said, rail dust, Iron-x and claybar will take care of that. Common across all makes all paints. It will make a reappearance if you live in a salt area, previous truck was a super white, its also a single stage paint so its going to chip easier, oxidize faster, etc.

Get yourself some Decon to go with the jetseal. Especially, having super white since it's still single stage, and oxidizes fast
Won't be the last time you need to remove some iron from the paint

get a citrus cleaner and give it a go. if it is some sort of tire shine or some other tar/road debris it will help clean it up easy. If it is some ferrous deposits i would say get a bottle of IronX and give it a go.

should be able to find this at walmart. But word of advise. Really strong citrus cleaners like this if you have any plastidip it will melt it as soon as it touches it and will make it run like wet paint

Or a joke, bit of sarcasm as OP's post alluded to a paint defect on 2017 tacomas, when clearly its a common issue (rail dust, paint contaminate) that can be addressed with clay bar/iron x, etc. Searching would have also led the OP to similar threads/postings. Just sayin.

Alright alright i get it i over reacted. Thing is i never had issues with that on any of my other white cars right now. Especially the the drift missile which i would expect to have the most contamination. Anyways only pic of the truck i have to make my crappy introduction.:sorry:
