I had an old roommate in college where his frontier was a nightmare of problems, made me proud every day that I drove a taco.

I'm a Nissan fan, I used to have a turbocharged 240sx. But then I needed a truck and looked at a couple Frontiers cause it's cheaper than Tacoma. Every frontier has leaking diff, weak brakes, and by the way it steers, you can tell it's a heavy truck. I drove several Tacomas and to me, it drives better, feels better, and looks better.

Would you change your flat if you truck had > 1000 lbs in the bed or would you empty it first? Is the OEM jack rated for a full load?

The only one time I had a flat with a "real" truck we had to have it towed because the lowering mechanism was rusted and seized to hell. Granted it was a rental but it was only a couple years old. The tow truck driver tried to get it down too but no luck.

Doesn't the Ridgeline also have a compact spare? Will the flat tire fit in the space where they keep the compact spare?

Yes I can. Honda thought about this situation. If you are planning on loading the bed you can remove the spare and mount it in the bed up toward the cab.

Overall length is too long to fit where it has to be parked in the driveway without causing a family breakdown. Otherwise that would have been my preference.

I don't think anyone would think he had handed in his man card if he needed help.

You are right, not everyone is capable. The man card thing is situational.
Example given about the guy taking his girl to dinner. They were probably dressed nice and hey, he had a new truck with two years roadside assistance, hell yea, I would have called too.
The example of guy on the trail and female member has to change his tire, yea, he lost his man card. If he was out on the trails trying to hang with the guys, he needs to be able to handle his own.
I too am a vet and have cadaver bone and screws holding my L1 and L2 disc in place, I may need help changing a tire depending on location. A parking lot I would be o.k., but on side of a busy road where time and safety matter, I am getting help.

Wow. Do you SERIOUSLY think any one of us would do anything other than thank him for his sacrifice and feel honored to change his tire for him?

Dude, really? Nobody here was even hinting at, or would dare to give someone a hard time for being disabled and not being able to change their own tire. There may be some a-holes here (myself included), but I can honestly say for myself and everyone else that NOBODY was even in the slightest, remotest possibility referring to anyone who cannot change their own tire because of a disability, let alone someone who became disabled as a member of service. You need to get over yourself.

Just saw one today. Didn't realize they have independent rear suspension as well.

can't speak to the new ridgelines, but I did have one of the first gens. a frequent "upgrade" that people on the forums would do is upgrade to a full size spare. the compartment is large enough to accommodate a fullsize tire. it slides out on a tray. that same tray can mount in the bed..... but really if you have a full bed full of mulch or dirt, there's no way one of those OEM bottlejacks is going to be strong or safe enough to lift any truck to change a tire. Another upgrade I saw people doing was keeping an actual floor jack in the trunk to use instead of the oem bottle jack. This could give enough stability/lift to change a wheel with a full truck bed...but again the jack would need to be moved to the back seat or bed. The backseats are completely empty underneath and are supported by a U shaped leg that swings out when the seats are lowered. this would give you a place to store something like a jack.

I was behind a new Colorado yesterday and the spare is fully visible from the rear. They didn't even try to conceal it.

I'd love to have a floor jack in my truck all the time, but I don't have space to put it where it's out of the way. I have a bunch of extra small floor jacks too. Oh well.

I do have a hydraulic bottle jack (6 ton I think), plywood, etc. to help me out if I needed them. Figured I can lift it quicker and easier with that then just use the OEM jack as a jack stand.

It's funny how some people say the Ridgeline isn't a real truck. My RAM 3500 would've said that about the girly little Tacos, too.
