Tacomas don't have struts, regardless of what some parts catalog may call them.

The front is a double wishbone coil over shock, rear is leaf and shock.

sortof stock. 6112/5160, pro wheels and a tune.
but having said that...they were most likely just telling me some BS since they make no money on warranty work, so they probably just waited till they had a slow day to do it. In all reality.

but, its fixed, speedo works haha.

Yeah. I hate being lied to. I've had the Toyota tech come out once before to tell me it would take him 8 hours to do the coolant pipe. I told him it can be done in 4 including pulling the intake manifold. He sat there looking at me as if his world just collapsed. Of course they did the work since they sold me a wrong part but left so many things disconnected.

Struts are coil overs. 10 names for the same part.

Brand new 2.7 5 speed Speedo ticking like a clock on slowing down, ordered it, picked it up today and noticed the tick at 13 miles in. Pretty sad to read all these reports, I too am along time Toyota owner, 8 rigs in so far, with some disappointment starting to show up the past few years. This has to be fixed under warranty. sorry to hear all this trouble for new owners, not what I expected to read here!

Seeing Toyota's description on Page 3 of the attached PDF might be helpful?

And paragraph 2 in the link from above; I don't think the Tacoma meets this criteria.

"The major difference between shocks and struts is that a strut is a structural part of the vehicles suspension system where a shock is not. A strut is also crucial part of the vehicles steering system and greatly affects alignment angles. Camber and caster angles are usually adjusted right on the strut itself. A strut is also a pivot point for the vehicles steering system ...."

But, enough. No more from me on the topic. Feel free to call it what you wish. :hattip:

I've always considered them struts just for the reason you have to do an alignment after the new ones settle out. I'm due for another set just from wear and tear. 4600 series Billies waiting in the closet.

Anyway OP sorry for the thread jack.

The quality has definitely taken a nose dive. Its as if they never finished testing them both lab and real world.

I had the same thing happen to my brand new 17 5spd SR. The RPM gauge would tick down 500rpms at a time and my speedo would tick down randomly usually on super hot days. They have replaced the whole cluster under warranty when they replaced my transmission. The RPM gauge does not tick down anymore but the speedometer ticks down worse than before on hot days.

Still have the same issue, too fun to drive to take it in to the dealer yet. It's NOT hot here in Alaska! We'll see what happens when it goes in for service. I bought the service plan and extended warranty after having issues with my tundra power steering at 37k miles.

I have the same problem. I was going about 40 and the speedometer said I was doing between 80 and 90 at times. The other meter was running high two. I called one Toyota dealer and she said that it was the button to change kilometer to mph. I could not find the button so I went to a Toyota dealer close to me and he said that it is for trucks that are digital. Mine is not digital. He told me if the problem happens a few more times to go to him. I bought a Toyota 2017 truck because I hear there vehicles last a long time though, starting to have my doubts. Try to have a good day. Late. Oh ya, one it happened the truck had about 1500 miles on it.

Eventually the dealer changed the speedometer and everything works good now.

my 2017 tocoma speedometer did this at 2000 miles. i told the dealership. they couldn't duplicate it. under warranty. nothing. just did it again at 12000 miles. also lost cruise. it reset itself at next start. try to still document it at the dealership.

My whole cluster was replaced due to the speedometer ticking up and down intermittently on my 2017 SR auto. Seems to only happen on the SR models with the center lcd screen. Works well now. Sure was frustrating try to get it to the dealership when it was acting up.
