Since purchasing my 2017 SR5 4-door (has standard entune audio option) I've been planning on how I'll do the stereo system. I installed full systems in my last 2 trucks. I will start with a new head unit... Looking for something with a decent sized touchscreen, has RCA outputs for 2 amplifiers/all door speakers and a subwoofer, allows the factory backup camera and hopefully steering wheel controls to be plugged into it, and maybe Android auto. Just trying to get ideas on what's available so I can start shopping. Are there any particular head units/setups that are popular among 3rd gen Tacoma owners?
For the sub I'm debating whether to do shallow mounts - where do people install them?
Or just do one nice 12" in a vented box taking up one of the rear seats. I had this setup in my last truck and it was fine since I rarely used the back seats, very easy to remove when needed, it's cheaper than shallow mounts, and there's more than enough bass...not sure if 2 shallow mount subs in a sealed box can compare.

    I came across this video:

And am wondering how that Toyota amp compares to small aftermarket 4-channel amps and how many RMS watts it has. maybe that wiring harness can be useful to make installation easier using a different (small) amp?
If I don't have to run new wires to each speaker that makes it easier...I had a Alpine ktp-445 "power pack" amp (45 watts RMS X 4) in my last truck, it worked pretty good and I didn't have to run new wires, the factory speaker wires were able to handle it. 45-50 watts per speaker works for me...I'm not entering any competitions. Just trying to get some ideas together on what I'll buy for my new truck
