Does the frequency of the vibration coincide with speed?

5100's all around, OME 887 with 1/4" spacer, icon 3 leaf aal. 255/75/17 BFG KM's on 4runner pro's. Rigid led pods. Debadged and tinted.
I have the same vibration around 80mph. Truck is bone stock with steelies and stock tires. I also have terrible driveline vibrations on deceleration between 30 and 10 mph. Truck has 300 miles. I have new wheels and tires on the way, hopefully that fixes the high speed shake

I had the same thought - only made it worse.

Have you asked your dealer about the 30-10 deceleration shudder? I also have a 2017 OR and I was expecting that to be fixed for 2017 but I still feel it. It's strongest at 20 mph but still pretty slight. The 2016 model TSB called for new leaf springs with a shim, as I understand it. I have the shim so it's possibly as good as it'll get so I am interested what you've learned.

I have studied causes for some of these vibrations. I have a couple of questions? What kind of tires did you have, and what kind of tires are you getting? Is your truck lifted any? When you decelerate from 30 to 10, and you feel vibrations, are you stopping very quickly, or is this a composed slowing?

Do you get the shudder when gracefully stopping or aggressively stopping?

If the frequency of the vibration doesn't coincide with tire or driveshaft speeds and the usual suspects eleminated, I'd try zip tying the front driveshaft and checking front different oil.

My truck is 100% stock with steelies wheels and the 245 Dunlop oe tires. The new tires are 255/75/17 bfg km's. The shuddering is worst the harder the stop is, but it happens on normal stops as well. If I have unlimited space, I can stop it without the truck doing it, but it happens in normal driving.

I haven't had a chance to get it into the dealership yet, I've only had the truck for a week. Also, the 80mph vibration was just discovered on Saturday, first time I've had the truck up to speed. I'm going to have to schedule it for some time in service.

Gotcha. I am not 100% sure, but I think the back brake is pretty strong when stopping. I think this is causing the pinion to nose down hard under moderate braking. That may be the source of your shudder. Again, I am not 100% sure on that one, but I have seen it before, and the Tacoma has a lot of axle wrap under accel decel. Also, if your 80 mph vibrations are really 80 mph and higher, consider belt issues in the tires. Try rotating the tires to look for changes and ultimately a road force balance.

The rear brakes are an interesting thought. I can test that theory by modulation my rear brakes using the handbrake on a slow decel where I have no shudder.

I'm assuming the vibration is tire related. It is minor at 75, and at 80 it feels like a slight balance issue. Something a road force usually would cure. Again, I'm changing wheels and tires soon, so I can see if that one disappears.

I took my 1 month old 2017 Tacoma SR DCSB (350 miles) on its first road trip Saturday, and have the vibration mentioned, so I'll be watching this thread closely. At some speeds the steering wheel shakes, and at higher speeds, there's a "rumble" associated with the steering wheel shake, so much so that you can feel it in the seat and floorboard. Doesn't make for a very comfortable ride.

I bought the truck without a whole lot of research, and went on past history with prior owners. I really, really, really like the truck, but didn't realize the extent of the issues with the Gen 3.

Good question. I'll have to pay closer attention. I notice it with average slowing. I think perhaps more noticeable at the bottom of hills so maybe a touch more toward aggressive stops. I am wondering if the fact that I already have the shim between my axle and leaf springs means that my truck had this addressed at the factory. I read that some owners still feel an ever so slight vibe even adter the TSB.

It feels like there may be too much rear brake used for a soft leaf spring and nothing to stop axle wrap.

The dealer kept my SR5 overnight they replace the driveshaft no more vibration! Drives like a dream. The service writers initial "well I drove another one it vibrated the same way wait for a service bulletin " was a huge mistake. Thankfully the service manager and two different mechanics agreed to check out the driveshaft. I would have talked myself raw bad mouthing the dealer now I will sing their praises.

Same problem but I just got 285's and they might not be balanced correctly

Road force balance to rule out tire going "out of round " at higher speeds to to poor belt overlap quality control.

    Yeah last week I had 265/75R16's and I didn't notice a problem.

Now I have 285/75R16's and my passenger seat was shaking side to side on the freeway when going 80.

Does is start at 80? What happens when you bring the speed up? Normally out of round provoked conditions are centrifugal in nature, and the vibrations will not cease as speed increases (a our balance issue ceases as you speed up past the resonant point)
