Hey so what’s the deal with the Tacos gas compartment not having a latch button or at least a locking gas cap lock? Anyone have some sort of mod for this besides just buying a locking gas cap?

Nope. Locking gas cap is only option. However, how many people want to mess with your gas hole really? Probably zero. If people around you do that shit, you need to move.
Locking door can be pried open, same as locking gas cap. To steal your gas, they will slide a shallow pan under truck and drill quickly through plastic tank. So, what problem are you solving?

It’s called having a peace of mind, do you think someone seriously is going to drill a hole under your truck lmfao. This truck has all the bells and whistles and they can’t just put a locking mechanism to open the door to your gas tank. Jeeessh thought that was standard for newer cars/trucks and also doesn’t matter where you live now of days. People are shit and try to destroy things they can’t have or want especially now with cops quitting bc of BLM or not wanting a shot so all the crooks and trash or coming out the their holes stealing ppl tires and catalytic converters. Don’t be a dick was a simple question.

I gave you a simple answer. You have a plastic tank. Thieves will drill tank and have all gas in 60 seconds. Much easier than through the neck. Locking gas cap will give you "piece of mind" whatever that is. Good luck.

Yes. Its been done before.... they will drill a hole, because you can't siphon from the tank through the gas cap.

Actually, yes. If they want the gas, that's the path of least resistance..

There have been aftermarket locking filler caps that have caused CEL.

Regardless, get the Gasshole by @MESO and never dangle again.

I bought the Stant locking gas cap for my truck and installed it. Everything was going great for a few weeks, then I had to park in my driveway. It's at least a 15 degree angle. It then set off a code of evap issues. I cleared the code and waited until I parked on a incline again.what do you know... another evap code... this illuminates the trac off and another light.
Changed back to my OEM gas cap and everything has been fine from then on.

I also live where police nor thieves show up. It's called the sticks. We are responsible for ourselves. I am not a dick. Sorry you don't like the truth.

Yes...that's the fastest and easiest way to steal gas from just about any vehicle. It's way easier and faster than trying to siphon up the filler neck.

Was of your mindset until the mechanism of my previous vehicle's cover malfunctioned while I was at the gas pump. Lucky I was not far from home to remedy it. Even then it would misbehave intermittently to the point where I just pried the damn thing open at fill up. I hate to think what a mess I would make drilling out the core of a malfunctioning gas cap lock.

The deal is Toyota has decontented the Tacoma throughout the years.

You could always modify the filler door with a cam lock (see photo below) but that seems a little overkill, simplest solution is an aftermarket locking gas cap.
