I picked up a 2017 DC TRD Off Road Long bed about 2 weeks ago. Mounted some 16" TRD rims and Falken Wildpeak tires and took off for 700 mile road trip from Mass down to the Outer Banks with the family (wife & 2 kids). Rolled in last night at about 12:30am after driving 12 hrs straight home and honestly, I love the truck.

I know there's a lot of reports of people experiencing a whistling noise at certain speeds and complaining about the transmission. Maybe I just got lucky or maybe they fixed the issues, but my truck rocks. No whistling and the transmission shifts fine. Yes it does drop down to 5th and 4th when climbing hills, but my Acura does the same thing.

My only complaints are the seats. I'm not in love with them and my back hurt quite a bit after a couple hours on the drive down. Coming back last night, I really tried to jam my but all the way back in the seat (ie. no slouching) and it was a lot better. Still not nearly as comfortable as my wife's Honda Odyssey seats or the seats in my Acura, but tolerable with the right posture.

Here are some action pics from our time in the Outer Banks. My future mods include:
    • Leer XR100 Cap - on order
    • Roof rack on the cap
    • 1.25" Spydertrax wheel spacers
    • Black Katskins Leather seats with some red TRD stitching
    • Blacking out the exterior emblems
    • Black tacoma stickers for the tailgate
    • Possibly a 1.5 - 2" lift. I do need to do something about saggy bed when it's loaded with gear.
Here are some action shots from last week! Couldn't be happier with the truck.

Give it a few thousand miles. I've found the truck behaves better when ECU is clean and it has not "Learned" yet... then trans starts to worsen.

I know quite a few people that have the new 3rd GEN and I have driven an 2016 TRD Auto more than a few times and the truck is flawless, the cab completely quite, the auto trans shifts smoothly between gears with excellent shift points, no driveline noises at any speed/RPM,plenty of power in the engine for towing, offroading, high speed driving. its a great machine.

Every day here we have one or two new people posting about their shitty transmission. Consider yourself lucky if you have no issues with it.

I wouldn't worry too much, a lot of these things are from a minority of owners, if it did occur the warranty would take care of it for you

I'm seriously not trying to troll, but you are acting like this stuff is happening to a trivial number of folks. I think most people above 2" lifts are having issues. That's seems to be the tipping point. In the grand scheme of things, its not even a big deal, so I am not sure why you are defending the Tacoma so much. Especially since you dont even own one.

With some stroke of luck it will be covered under warranty, it is lifted.
