I guess the fact that CR gave it poor ratings and JD power also thinks its bad ( 2 stars ) means nothing?
    Keep telling yourself that.
Sad fact is that most people research a new vehicle by Google. IF they pull up google with a search of "Toyota Tacoma problems" as most normal people would being prospective buyers they may be turned off due to CR reviews, JD Power reviews, the countless thread here on Tacoma World and Toyota Nation.
Whether the issues are major and wide spread or they are all "made up" is irrelevant in the grand scheme.
I have said it before, Its a Toyota and its a truck so resale will remain decent and Toyota will continue to sell well however it doesn't bode well for the overall judge of a Tacoma

Also correlates to the resale value being projected to take a hit on these in the future.

JD has not reviewed the 2017 yet. ... Seems most folks complaining have a 2016 auto tranny. I wonder how many bugs got worked out of a new model?

Nope. People are just expecting a rocketship with tons of torque down low. That's just not how this truck was designed.

I am a huge fan of Tacomas. I have owned two (1 1st gen and 1 2nd gen), and they have both been AMAZING vehicles. My family members have a lot of Tacos as well, including my FIL who has 3, including a 2003 with 400k miles. And the resale on Tacomas for me has been simply insane. I really wanted to like the 3rd gen, and maybe after Toyota fine tunes them they will eventually be acceptable. I test drove FIVE different 2017s, trying to find one that felt like it shifted right, etc. I drove five since so many people say they didn't notice the shifting issues, etc., I thought it might be a model by model difference (assembly plant, whether it be a different ECU firmware, or whatever). Unfortunately they were all the same. None of them were nearly as nice to drive as my 2007, although I felt like they seats were a tiny bit more comfortable. I purposely found one built in Texas to see if it was any better (most I found were built in Baja/Tijuana). No difference. I did find the 6 spd manual to be a bit better, but for my wife to drive it she would have to be way to close to the steering wheel.

I know choice-supportive bias (or post-purchase rationalization) exists, but I have never seen a better example as I have on this message board. The Tacoma is likely still reliable, but Toyota truly let it's customer base down with the 3rd gen power train, which was clearly a cost and mpg compromise made by Toyota. It is funny to see people rationalize all of the let downs. Customers should be mad at Toyota for producing this let down.

When multiple car award companies and review say a vehicle is a letdown, you might want to listen.

I get why you like your 4.0 Liter Drivetrain better, it's got more low RPM torque.

The simple fact is this: This new combo just makes power about 1000 rpms higher than the old one. It needs to see RPMs to make power. Some people see it as an issue, it isn't. It's just different. Overall, it's likely a better combo than the old one. It's just not what many here are used to.

There really isn't much more to discuss about it, but I'm sure there will be plenty more anyways.
