Just received the Revolver x2 and attempted to install. The tracks that were sent with the cover are supposed to have a "slot" that the clamps slide into. But, the tracks I was sent do not. There is no slot on the track to hold the track to keep it from moving up and down. I called Bak Industries and talked to one guy who just said I needed shims and he is sending those. Looked at a video installation from AutoCustoms.com which shows the clamps clearly sliding into a track. Called back and the second guy I talked to didn't seem to have a clue as to what slot I was talking about. Neither person I talked to seemed to be familiar with the product or installation of it on a 3rd generation Tacoma. Just wondering if anyone else has purchased one of these and had any issue with the install?

At about 4:13 The following video shows the clamps sliding into the slot that my rail does not have.

I installed a bak mx4 and it has pretty much the same system. Took a second to figure out what went where but the track was there. Maybe try watching the mx4 installation video for a second look?

I just got my X2 yesterday. I'll be installing it Saturday. I'll get back with you and see if I have the same issue.

Can you post pics of your rail? I installed one after purchasing my 16 Sport.

I have an x2, and I got the metal adapters (for moving the factory rails down) that slide into the BAK rails. I've installed it like 4 times on my truck (not happy with how it turned out the first few times, am now happy) and am happy to give advice. You should have gotten 10 metal adapters (5 on each side for long bed, 4 for short bed), as well as replacement torx bolts for moving the rails down. The "Slot" is the perpendicular part of the top rail that pushes against the truck bed, and it should be grooved with the grooves facing [CORRECTION] the inside of the truck bed, not the truck bed composite.

I just installed a Bak Revolver X2 on the weekend. Here is a picture of one of the 10 brackets you should have received. I painted them black first, only so they would blend in better with the black rails. I have shown the bracket in the orientation it mounts (top of picture is top of bracket, bottom of picture is bottom of bracket).

The threaded hole near the bottom, is where your factory rails bolt up to.

Where I have shown the arrow (near the top of the bracket) - you will see a female slot. There should be a corresponding male piece running the length of the Bak rails. The very top of the bracket (above the arrow) also slides into the Bak rail.

Take the Bak rail, and look at it from the very end. You should see how the brackets (4 per side for short box, 5 per side for long box) slide into the provided Bak rail. The only way to attach the brackets to the Bak rail, is to slide them on from the very end, and push them down the rail. Hope this helps.

Those are photos of the rails I was given. No male part to slide the brackets onto as far as I can tell. Bakflip is hopefully sending new rails to me that actually work on the truck. It sounds like I was given rails for the 2nd gen Tacoma.

I had the same problem as the OP. I got the adapters later, but still didn't really like how it went on. It also rolled up into a bit larger of a roll than I liked. I ultimately returned mine and went back to a truxedo soft top. Maybe I will try it again in a couple years if they refine the product a bit more.

I just went out and snapped a photo of the Bak rail with the clamp closest to the tailgate, attached. You can see where the female portion of the clamp attaches to the male portion of the Bak rail. Looks like the male portion of the rail does not run the full length, but starts about where the factory bed rail ends (it can be seen mounted below the Bak rail). tQHc4SmSRqqT4UYdA6vbVA_thumb_64a2.jpg

I agree, those don't look right for the 3rd gen.
