Does anyone else think that it takes a long time to brake in their 3rd gen Tacoma? I'm also coming from a 3,000lb 2006 BMW 325i. I understand I'm going from 4 disc to 2 disc/2 drum and added 1k lbs but damn, these brakes either suck or the Germans have their shit wired tight!

The brakes are just fine and obviously are gonna feel different from a truck to a luxury car.
I can't speak for the braking power/ability of a 2006 BMW but my girlfriend has a newer a5 and it does brake better than my truck. I had to slam on them to avoid a crash once and I was super impressed with how well the performed.

Germans have their shit wired tight. There have been several ugrades to tundra brakes, (rotors, calipers and pads). Requires cutting dust shield.

I think they are great, and they stop my truck on dirty fives just fine. Actually locked them up on the highway the other day.

And my other ride has 15.4" six piston Brembo's that will put your teeth into the dash.

That's quite the apples to orangutans comparison.

Lemme guess. The bimmer handles winding roads better too?

Lol it's not bad for 6 pot brakes. I sure wish someone would develop a supercharger for our truck!

I'd hope they'd have Brembos... weighs like 7 times more than the Tacoma.

A supercharger is $4995.00 for the 2nd Gen Tacoma. So keep saving.

I've driven Toyotas for the past 30 years. Mini pickups, camry, corolla, avalon, gen1 tacoma. The brakes on this one (gen3) is the first time I've owned a Toyota where I thought "hey...the brakes don't actually suck on this one". Toyota brakes have always been for shit. I just accepted that as a fact of life and "cost of doing business" if I was going to drive a Toyota. But I think they finally did okay on the 3rd gen.

I'm also coming off of a 2007 3 series BMW (Break My Wallet). Thing would stop on a dime. Would also run like a bat outta hell. But was a piece of shit. Not a better car to drive...when it ran right. Which wasn't often.

It's a truck. And the first Toyota I've owned or driven that actually had decent brakes. After all of my Toyota experiences over the years (as good as they all have been in general) I was a little surprised this one actually had decent brakes for a change.

That's because the Tacoma only has 1 pair of Drum brakes and not the full 2 pairs of Drum brakes like real trucks do!

LMAO, if you ever want to feel your butthole pucker up into your throats then try driving a 4 wheel drum brake vehicle and try to make a quick stop.

Honestly, the extra stopping power and control of 4 wheel disc brakes should not be needed on a Tacoma. It's not a track vehicle. Maybe it's the driving that's the issue. You gotta realize that it will take longer to stop a heavier vehicle and need to start braking sooner with a Tacoma vs a BMW 3 series.
