    Hey there!

I just recently purchased a '17 Tacoma and my lab loves sitting shot gun with my in the truck. Down fall, he's over the weight limit and he sets of the seat belt alarm. For now, I'm buckling the seat belt and tucking it behind the seat but it's a pain the the a%$. I've seen some posts on how to disable but no mention the new generation trucks.

Your feedback would we welcomed and appreciated!

    Cheers!

Page 601 in your users manual.

Take it to your dealer and ask them to turn it off. The option is available in vehicle customization but is restricted to dealer access.

I turned mine off using the Carista app. It requires an BT OBDII dongle.

You want that reminder in case it's a person who forgot to buckle up.

What I would do is head over to the local wreck yard and grab a compatible buckle and when your dog rides with you, clip it in. You can keep it in the glove box when not in use. Problem solved without any permanent modification.

It took me less than 5 mins to do. Most dealers won't do anything for free unless you become friends with the advisor or service manager.

I use Rhino 3" seat belt extender. Think it was $8 from Amazon.

And I too turned mine off with my iPhone, Carista app, and the OBD2 connector... you can do a lot more with the system too.

Take it to the dealer and tell them to do it like they have no choice. They'll do it for free. Had 'em do mine before I drove it off the lot.

If I was a car dealer, I wouldn't disable a federally mandated safety system either. I mean, sheeeeesh.

Get the app and the OBD2 connector and be done with it. Or those aftermarket belt gizmos.

On my '08 you could do it yourself. On my '17 it's dealer only. If "federally mandated" it wouldn't be an option. The flashing dash light is still there just no annoying noise. Why pay money and jump through hoops if you don't have to? They can and should silence it for you if that's your choice as a consumer.

Kellyjoe: I can't argue with you, but this is a litigious culture we live in. I'm just happy I was able to turn mine off without driving three hours to the nearest dealer. Besides, I enjoy tweeking my own truck.

In my opinion you're reaching there and I could go on and on with what ifs about anything done to a vehicle other than how you drove it off the lot. If it can't be silenced it shouldn't be an option. No bell, whistle or light is going to buckle up the dumbass that doesn't want to wear a seat belt.

Everybody (including the dealer and Toyota) is named in the suit. It's the deep-pockets that always get tapped. That's the way lawsuits work.

And 'nuff said on liability. Let's get this thread back to turning the damn seat belt warning buzzer off.

Who gets sued when both parties in the front seat are deaf and can't hear the ever so safe federally mandated chime?:rofl:Mic drop... but I can't hear it. I'm silenced for free by my dealer. I'm out.
