Lol fix your thread title. Your truck is not dying, you have a leaking gasket. What you have now is simply click bait.

My dealer says almost all newer Toyota’s have this problem. It’s a big problem on the 4.6 and 5.7’s as well.

mine weeps but wasn’t caught until it was out of warranty. The dealer just shrugged me off and said they couldn’t do anything about it, unless I wanted to pay out of pocket for the repair.

Anybody putting over 1,000 miles on their truck every week, probably needs reliable transportation...just saying.

177,000 miles in 2 years is 242 miles per day every day. That's like LA to Vegas every day. That truck has put in WORK.

My guesses are OP works in some kind of sales, is a specialized mechanic, or a hotshot trucker - however I wouldn't expect to see a hotshotter using anything but a fullsized.

If I had a $4300 timing cover job I wouldn't be trading for the same (just newer) truck.

This is why I run 5W30 and do 5k oil changes.

I'm currently counting the number of vehicles I drove that leaked oil, probably about as many that didn't have A/C.
In not anti new tech, don't get me wrong, it's great we're not all driving oil leaking hoopties, but voting a good high mileaged truck off the island over an oil leak is a bit extreme. My buddy bought my 1983 Toyota the 22R leaked so much, he'd just bum other's used oil and add when he got gas.

I don’t see why weight of oil and change intervals would effect anything. Per my dealer, the timing cover is a different metallurgy and has a different expansion rate than the block and that’s why it leaks. Supposedly even if they fix it, it will eventually leak again.

Not sure what truth there is to that statement, just relaying what I was told when I inquired about mine weeping.

From older posts it doesn't seem like a terrible garage fix.. I'm no mechanic but I've pulled and rebuilt engines in the past. And like above I'd just fix or get it fixed. Cheaper than 35-40k on another truck that it may happen again..

General Motors had the same issues. I think a lot of manufacturers are moving to cheaper in house RTV or maybe they’re applying the bare minimum possible. Just a working theory. I slapped my differentials together with permatex red rtv while there was gear oil on everything and I have no leaks. Permatex has never disappointed me and seems to outlast everything. I know a lot of 90s Japanese stuff used permatex as well. For all we know, this is a EPA thing..

I've had good luck using high mileage oil in situations like this where the oil leak is small enough to be cured with some seal/gasket sweller, or I wasn't going to fix the leak so no harm in trying high mileage oil.

Mobil 1 HM stopped a rear main seal leak on my mustang and my XJ Cherokee.

The Grand Cherokee my Tacoma replaced started leaking oil at 215k miles wasn't worth the cost to fix, HM oil slowed the leak to at least not drip on the driveway. Just had to wipe away residue once a week on the bottom of the oil pan.
