This is true. I know for us other than one reoccurring lemon of a third gen, the vast majority of them don't really have any issues unless there's lack of maintenance or in one particular case, Valvoline didn't put oil in this dude's engine...

Is there sample bias in my experience? Absolutely. There isn't everyone's. That's why we have to draw from ridiculously wide pools of information. That being said, I don't think it's fair to Toyota or to consumers to run around shouting that third gen's are unreliable. As the dead horse is already been beaten, parts, suppliers and manufacturers around the world have taken a hit in quality control over the past two or three years. Whether you're driving a Porsche or an Alpha, you're going to see a reduction in quality.

Thats exactly what I was told by the dealership guy selling extended warranties that I refused to take. He told me that, plus toyota no longer can give the store away. Basically was told if you don't buy an extended warranty contract, your sol once the factory one runs out.

By the guy selling the warranties
I’m not much of a gambler but extended warranties almost never work out saving the buyer money and even with the most problematic makes. My sister in law used to sell these things and their profit on them is almost criminal. My mechanic friend told me “only ever take it on anything with a turbo”.

Plenty of guys on here that got their timing covers and deal cyl issue fixed for free because of their Toyota extended warranty. For 2k it's a no brainer to have a drivetrain warranty on these trucks to 100k.

Just buy a CPO Toyota. Comes with drivetrain coverage to 100k or 7 years, whichever occurs first :D

Or just buy a nice pair of walking shoes. You’ll be super fit and don’t have to worry about engine wear and tear.
