In the end you will still be a customer, and lemon law would cost them more in the long run.

Wow, I would definetly be fired up if I were in this situation.

Does yota need to replace his truck, NO. SHOULD yota replace his truck YES.

I would think the little bit that yota would lose by putting him in a new truck on Monday would be minor in the grand scheme of things. No rental costs, no extended warranty, no paying customer payments, not getting a truck Lemmon lawed. Take the "USED" under 500 mile truck swap the motor, test it out and sell it used. Why wouldn't they do that?

I would guess that the replacement engine would come shipped on a pallet, which might not be so bad as someone having to rebuild one... Still sucks but I would rather know right away that there was a problem, and get it fixed, rather than it happening down the line. If I was OP, I would see it as a blessing. :)

Yes my gf keeps saying toyota makes billions of dollars why cant they replace it...the gm responded w this...
Mr. I just spoke with Mark your salesperson. He advised me about the problem with your Tacoma. I empathize with your situation and would love to help, however Toyota will not compensate a dealer for a repair. They will, at no expense to you, completely repair any warrant-able issue you encounter with your vehicle. If you would like to trade the vehicle, Mark and I would be happy to assist you, but swapping is not an option.

We have ordered the parts for your vehicle and will work to quickly and professionally effect the necessary repairs. If you would like to discuss the trade option please feel free to contact us.

Once again, I apologize for any inconvenience.

    Thank You,

That seems to be part of the debate here as to how it is fixed or replaced.

Go see what they want to do the trade, if it's $2000, ask them to waive it, in the interest of consumer relations, they won't lose much when they resell your old truck...

Does each dealership have at least one master technician? Or do they just fly these guys around the country?

It's better to pop the engine out and put a new one in. Then they can tear it apart and do a QA/QC post mortem on the problem engine without tying up your truck at the dealership.

Should be "plug and play" for a master tech.

    Sub'd for resolution.

My brother had an oil filter fail on an older chevy and it blew the motor.

The oil filter company chipped in some money on the new motor but only a fraction. Brother was bummed but he save a ton by doing the swap himself.

If I swapped out the engine it may never run again and im not flipping the bill so they can have pat goss from motor trend do it as he charges em by the min. :D As long as they are qualified and I am sure they will be and hopefully they will take their time....:welder:

Respond with this, "I will be happy to trade my truck in for exactly what I paid for it. You won't have to call it a "swap", just call it a trade. I'm happy, you're happy, errrrbody happy."

Yeah ive already asked to trade but they said welllllll we cant give you what a new one is worth because...and all they care about is their bottom like saying how they cant loose money....well hopefully they arent have to exchange trucks out daily....I expect that from Fiat not Toyota....very disappointed w the dealer even though some here may not agree :duel:so to get the same exact truck they want me to give them 2 grand more than I originally paid...not gonna happen...

I wonder how they got out of telling you, it was normal. It doesn't matter when I go to the dealership with my clunk, flare and shutter its normal.
