Not very long ago in the 2nd Gen Section the Dealer messed up the engine doing and Oil Change and they did get a used engine from a salvage yard as a replacement.

And we have our answer. Thank you, sir.... :) I guess we could now all debate what remanufactured means but our friends at Wikipedia say:
Remanufacturing is the rebuilding of a product to specifications of the original manufactured product using a combination of reused, repaired and new parts. It requires the repair or replacement of worn out or obsolete components and modules.

You can track their inventory online so be sure and do your homework. They can pull any of those vehicles that have not been obligated with a deposit so know what is coming and when. Knowledge is power.

That's fine he may well be an awesome guy. He's just not honest about the "junkyard" engine swap coming from Toyota corporate. They don't do that.

When I checked that dealers inventory on the I4 they dont have a huge selection...just the white one and the one on order....& I know the case worker I have talked w him 3 times but on our last call so far that is when he offered the warranty and at the time that was the end of toyota the said they could do no more for me....and then I mentioned the lemon law and asked if I accept the extended warranty does it prevent me from a lemon claim and he said no.....today the dealer sales manager said that the same case worker called him about a swap and explained what they discussed however the case worker didnt call me today so maybe he will tomorrow?:anonymous:everyone always knows more than me:hattip:

I'd be mad as hell if I had a two week old truck that needed a new motor. I definitely wouldn't want some tech at the dealership putting a new motor in my brand new truck. Tell the dealer you are not going to accept less than a new truck period. Get a good lawyer asap!

Uh, read my comment again. I said that Toyota is doing the right thing in his case so I would give the dealer too much grief. Yes, I'm serious. Why make the situation worse? The dealer didn't build the first engine not his fault. He is getting what he should get - a fixed engine, not a whole new truck. If the rear end went out should he get a new truck? Of course not. this is no different - just a more expensive fix. Not to mention the warranty on the engine will be reset so he'll have more time in the event there's any issues with the rebuild down the road.

He has no case for a new truck and Lemon law does not apply unless he has had it in more than 3 times for the same problem or the dealer has had the truck for a total of 30 days - not consecutive (in CA - not sure about other states). The dealer wouldn't put some green tech on an engine rebuild. One of the lead mechanics will do the work and it will be fine. Toyota does not provide crate engines so they will rebuild his block.

I was in agreement with this post up until that last sentence. Are you sure about that? I would imagine the warranty department would want the bad engine so they could tear down in a controlled environment and use for research purposes.

Somewhere back in on one of these pages it sounded like they only plan on swapping the Shortblock.

Which is just fine, still not a major ordeal for a certified tech. The tech is not doing anything internally, just swapping external components over to the block, so not really a ¨rebuild¨
