That's BS. You'd would want a new truck too. We are talking the OP is only 2 weeks into ownership. That shit truck was clearly not ready for the lot, not enough testing was done on the motor. Maybe 10k or 25k miles in you shouldn't get a new truck. But it broke right off the lot, OP should get a NEW truck just like the one you are lucky enough to have.

I wonder if the repair/replacement report can be held back from CarFax. Does anyone know the protocol on this regarding factory defect repairs/replacement?

    I also want a 747...
I get the frustration, but mechanical things break down thats why there is a warranty. Next people would complain their truck came with 100 miles of testing on it before they got it... cant win over everyone. Things happen.

    Don't know.

I do know I'm on all sorts of sites regularly looking at some cool cars that I would consider buying (or at least dream of buying) and when I check out carfax they sometimes detail work done...if it had a motor swap I think I'd shy away from it.

Since we know that Toyota replaces whole assemblies rather than repair them, is it not likely that they will put a crate motor in rather than a short block? In fact, I would bet they send out a fully dressed one so it will be just a simple part swap instead of stripping the old one down and moving all the parts over to the new one.

I'm sure this is correct. I know of no dealers who check out carfax. A private sale however may be affected tho.

Very possible. I know a lot of folks who don't check out carfax though too.

every dealer checks carfax on every trade in???? They want to know if it was in an accident... not if an engine was replaced.

mine had carfax used when I bought it, it might not be mandatory but helps them with the sale if the trucks in good condition. also carfax doesn't show if the truck was maintained properly oil changes etc. just ownership and accidents, major repairs

I agree... most would use a history checker of some kind, regardless if they tell you. It really depends where you get it serviced. You must pay to have history reported to carfax, but when that vehicle comes back on trade, you can say "hey look customer, we have been with the car since day 1".

I do not claim to be a lemon law expert of every state, was just going off what the OP said and the time frame. Although the length of time for this repair IS a factor in some states when lemoning a vehicle.

    Yes

I've seen random things like this on a carfax, whether this makes it or not, who knows. I do know this will more than likely show up on the Toyota record of repairs that anyone can access via a VIN. I'd also wager that someone would be less likely to pick the truck over one without a replaced engine by a dealership if/when OP goes to list it for a private party sale.

I'm sure there are a few that skew the results, but overall from my expierence, the Mexicans are kind and hard working people. They are learning more and more each day and are willing to do it for less. Just because you have some vision in your mind of a gang banger doesn't mean they all are.
Also, I am by no means a liberal or a snow flake so comment elsewhere.
