May of last year my 2017 Tacoma had some major hail damage. The body shop (Caliber Collision) needed to replace the hood and roof.

Yesterday I noticed a small BB sized rock or pellet (it was perfectly round) wedged in between my hood and hood scoop. I removed the tiny rock but looked like the clear coat might have been scratched or damaged on the hood. I had some vehicle scratch fix that has paint on one end and clear coat on the other. I went to apply some clear coat to the spot the rock scratched and I managed to spill a drop of clear coat in another area on the hood. I ran inside to get a wet paper towel but I was unable to remove all of it. It still left a thin layer of clear coat that I spilled which I was unable to wipe off. I tried to gently scrape what I could with my fingernail then stopped cause didnt want to cause any further issues.

The spot is about 1 to 1.5cm. The spot isnt really noticable unless looking for it. I was going to use rubbing compound but I dont want to potentially damage the clear coat the body shop applied. I worry enough already about losing my factory paint job on my hood and roof cause of the hail damage.

Could having a thin layer of paint touch up repair clear coat over the existing clear coat on that one small 1.5cm spot cause issues later? I guess I'm concerned if the clear coat repair that spilled there starts to flake off, that it could take the clear coat the body shop applied off with it.

Caliber Collision is supposed to have a lifetime warranty on their repairs, but I dont specifically see anything mentioned about their paint. I'm hoping if there are issues with their paint job that it will be covered.

It shouldn't affect the clear the body shop applied last year. You can try a polish first. If that doesn't remove it try a light duty compound and then polish, lastly a wax. If you truck was waxed it should remove fairly easy.

Both the hood and roof had to be replaced. The dents were too large to pop out. The hail was almost tennis ball size. My insurance covered the repair. I think it was around $6k.

Oh so you got it really bad..Sorry to hear. Mine was only ping pong ball size. I kind of wish it was worse so they would replace it. I cant decide between going through insurance or not to keep it off the cars record. My MX4 Tonneu is completely destroyed as well.....
