Yep, I have new tires on and was loving the snow today on the hill. Freshly fallen, cars getting stuck everywhere, but I just cruised in and out :p

4x4 or 4x2? Curious, although I live in a desert, would like to know if I can cruise up to the snowy mountains and have a piece of mind in my 4x2.

Absolutely. Even took off the Duratracs and replaced them for the winter with Blizzaks. The truck is a beast in the snow.

OP, I grew up in Maine. They are getting hit pretty hard today. We got a little snow here in Ohio. We got a lot earlier in the month. The truck is pretty good in the snow, but I will go on record saying my Subaru was better. Granted it had snow tires, but there is also a big difference between AWD and 4x4.

LinvingOnEdge - your truck will do okay in snow if you get snow tires and keep the bed loaded. I had a 2WD Ranger and it was dicey in the snow with All-Terrains and minimal weight in the bed. That's just my experience.

Throw a bail of hay/straw back there for the winter, then in early spring mulch FTW, problem solved x2.

I pick mine second week of january
won't doubt its a snow storm when I pick it up lmao.

I've always lived in Ontario and absolutely love winter, having a january birthday I got my license in the winter and learned to drive in it.
Never had an issue with it and always loved it.
Glad to hear the tacoma is great in the snow, I've been in other trucks that sucked in the snow.
Already got snow tires waiting at my tire shop to get put on as soon as I pick it up

I love driving Bruce through the snow. Here is a clip of her climbing (video really flattens out the hill) up a slick snowy day earlier this year. Dad filmed it and was upset that it didn't lose grip with just a couple trees in the bed. (he has 2012 pre-runner)

All trucks are girls, why else would you need to sell nuts for them.
Not trans, just a girl with a boys name. Named after Bruce the great white in Finding Nemo, which according to 'his' fins is a girl. (full fish factiods here: https://thefisheriesblog.com/2015/05/11/finding_nemo_sharks_ate_their_siblings_embryophagy/)

Do you need to know, or care?
    +2

Had a 2WD Ranger as well. Keep bed loaded with weight and add snow tires. Was dicey as well, but never stuck.

Ice is another issue. Had ice in mall parking lot here last week. Taco was dicey in 4WD with stock tires. Double the turning radius and go slow, mall crawling at its best.

Duratracs, while siped and definitely snow-shedding, are nowhere near as efficient on snow and ice as the softer, more-siped, snow-specific Blizzak. Besides, I already had the 265/70-17 Blizzaks. That said, if I didn't already have them, I would have left the Duratracs on.

Agreed. Duratracs and other all-seasons can be okay in the snow, but real snow tires are in a different league. A real all-season tire has to make compromises on rubber compound and tread pattern that dedicated snow tires do not. Of course, that softer rubber compound means you can't drive them around during the warm months. Having two sets of tires is the way to go if you see snow and ice in the winter and can afford to swap twice a year.

The Duratracs have a little bit of siping to help out, but they don't even come close to what a real snow/ice tire looks like:

2017 TRD-OR Goodyear Wrangler Adventure Kevlar 265/70r16 are probably the best factory-original tires ever put on a Truck. They are excellent in every terrain I have had them in so far, and have been great in the Snow also. Snow is far and away my favorite terrain, but sadly Indianapolis has gotten very little this year.

.In the spirit of a performance oriented thread...the formulaic 'lemming-effect' at Tacomaworld is STRONG where there is almost a single file line to immediately switch wheels and tires, some of them with 0 miles on their trucks. Seems everyone here wants to achieve a "look" or "wants x-inch lift" without regard to performance impact. Hive mind builds or zombie builds where an arbitrary " I want x-inches" is mindlessly pursued, and the parts are slapped on seemingly at random or with little research, eliciting some of the saddest mod-headache threads of any board I have seen. Brand new trucks stripped to pieces, frames cut-into for rough-country lifts etc.. or the "ive been to the shop 4 times and its still not right" "i cant get it aligned" "my wheels rub" "how do I install x part, I'm stuck and the truck is torn apart?" "what spring fits what strut?" "my suspension isn't right". The vast majority of Builds here show strangely configured suspensions on their truck, Cheaped out block/spacer lifts or silly spring/coil set ups that must kill actual performance just to keep up with the imaginary jones's at TW, or to get the TW "look".

I understand all message boards have their native culture, where the bulk of users who drank the boards cool-aide, buy into the formula and end up with the "tacomaworld" set up. Before anyone gets the wrong idea, each one of you 3rd gen'ers, especially The TRD-OR crowd and even the TRD-Sport crowd (to a point) got excellent, EXTREMELY capable factory outfitted Trucks. If you are prospective owner, a current owner who is thinking about mods, or someone with parts in your shopping cart, Take a minute to think twice. You are already sitting on a Truck that crushes pretty much anything on the market performance off road truck wise, and though I may have some bias, I truly do believe the 2016+ 6speed manual TRD-OR/ TRD-PRO's are a more exciting multi terrain useful drive than a raptor (automatic trans, excessively large size, engine shut-off nonsense). 3rd gen Tacomas in the manual-trans configuration are some of the most fulfilling, factory capable vehicles ever made, no hyperbole.

I use bags of garden lime. I keep them dry and just spread on the yard in the Spring.
