That would be a badass engine swap.

The problem with used/rebuilt/short block only motors, and having a shop do the work, is the unknown. Was that used motor serviced on time? Was the rebuit motor rebuilt correctly with quality parts (never), is the short block the only issue?

It's a gamble for the owner and the shop. I am a mechanic now, but have ALWAYS done my own mechanic work since a teenager. I really wish everyone these days did their own mechanic work, plumbing, electrical, etc. Feel bad for some people with these huge mechanic bills.

The engines are 100% the same aside from the vacuum pump or block off plate, and sealing ball (for non-pump) or no sealing ball (for pump).

It doesn’t matter anyways because he’s looking to buy an OR engine for his OR, but if he was grabbing one from an SR5/Sport with the vacuum pump, he would remove the pump, install the sealing ball, and block off the hole in the cam tower with the block off plate. Then the engine would drop straight into his truck and everything would plug right in and be good to go. That’s the whole point of dealing with the changes the motor needs to work with the truck. But again, it doesn’t matter anyways because he’s getting an engine out of the right trim level if he buys the one he’s talking about.

So i booked an appt for next week at the garage where Im buying the used engine from the salvage place. 5500$ for the engine and 2500$ for labor (takes around 2 full days) sounds like a decent price.

Seems reasonable. Sucks to have to do this, but at least you’ll be back on the road.

thank you for clearing that up, I thought I read on here someone had an issue that could not be resolved with using a different motor. He ended up posting it in the 4sale section

He thought compatibility was the problem, but then the guy with the crazy long engine swap thread (@silverstr8p ) bought it and he had trouble with it too. It had numerous things wrong, the crank angle sensor plate was not indexed correctly, and wiring going to some of the injectors and such was messed up. That engine is now running in his truck problem free (that I know of).

If it had not been for yourself and @Vlady and several other members the truck may have never run again. @Vlady deserves a good Samaritan award for going above and beyond!
