Not worried about mine, lease it and forget it. No rust problems, tranny, problems, brakes, tires, not even oil changes. Gas and go for me, the only way to own a tacoma, in the salt belt states anyway.

Depends on the dealer in my experience here in Atlanta. Some provide it, some do not.

It's really a pretty clever marketing ploy. Many buyers will be all over it as a benefit. On the other hand how many will ever make use of it? The lifetime powertrain warranty is non-transferrable, so it's only in play for the original owner if they buy the vehicle new and keep it past the 5 year / 60,000 miles factory powertrain warranty. I'd venture to guess that a very small percentage of owners ever get to make use of it.

With that said, if you are a buy-and-drive-until-the-wheels-fall-off type of person it's a nice benefit given it's included at no additional charge. :)

Oh I agree, it's definitely a marketing ploy. As of now there's nothing that catches my eye from the tacoma. Given I've already got a tow rig so as far as dally driver trucks go this is it for me.

Maybe with lower funding to the EPA we can get some cool stuff. Time will tell.

Yep. Maybe not perfect, but of what's on the market it's the best fit for my needs/wants/preferences.

Back on topic - I instructed my dealer (via email so it was in writing) to double check the transmission fluid level before I took delivery. One of these days I may just triple check it myself. I've not had any real issues with the transmission other than the CAFE-oriented upshifting occasionally being too aggressive. I'll have them do the current TSB when it's in for the next service interval.

I think that this forum makes me more paranoid than I would be without it...

If it ain't broke don't fix it!! And don't read into to much advise you read here.. half the people complain about non sense, can't spin a wrench and rely solely on what their dealer told them.. most said there tranny was 1/2'quart low. That could simply be their tranny was 30 degrees to cool or the dealer wanted to just make them go away because they swear these forums offer sound advice
