2017 Tacoma TRD 4x4 with Manual transmission!!!

Anybody offroading using manual transmission here? I just purchased my Truck and I live near Pismo Beach CA. Wanted to try out my truck.

 

Dude i looked for that color for 2 weeks before I bought mine last month! Ended up with magnetic gray. I’m down in Orange County.

 

But yea been out a few times so far. Havent been out to the sand yet though.

 

I really want a manual Tacoma, I scout the internet for long time then I saw this in San Jose CA. I drove 4hrs just to check it out.
The dealerships around me has the gray, silver and white.

I did some offroading last weekend with my TRDOR manual. The manual trans with the stock 4.30 gears works great.
A few general tips:
1. Do not press clutch pedal when water fording - pick gear before you go through, if you stall use the clutch bypass button to start truck.
2. To avoid excess clutch wear, when doing slow crawling type stuff - use 4low instead of 4high.
3. In 4low - it will drive like almost like a manual trans tractor - you generally do not need to give it gas when in 1st or reverse when letting out the clutch. Also, if you need to you can start in 2nd or even 3rd gear when in 4low if you are going a little faster.
4. If you are having trouble getting traction - use 4low and turn on ATRAC. If still having trouble/get stuck - use rear locker

 

for #3, let off the clutch a little slower than when you're in 2HI/LO

 

Agreed. Those lower gears give you a ton of torque and can be a bit tricky to balance with the clutch at first.

 

I just went on a 20 mile trail in the snowy mountains and my TRDOR MT did amazing. On the slick steep climbs I ran 4LO 2nd gear diff locked and it crawled up with hardly any issue while my buddy in is 4runner was sliding down backward. Stock tires and lift.

 

Yes, for the last 25 years. Manuals are great off road.

 

Welcome! I haven't taken mine offroading yet but look to go to Pismo soon! Family has a house there.

 

I have taken my truck on some trails and was VERY surprised at how well a stock MT Sport with stock tires did. My cousin, who knew that trail, was very impressed as well.
