I think I will try that, I’m not interested in having my engine torn apart for a 4th time regardless of who eats cost.

Hi everyone. I just discovered this problem on my 2017 3.5L V6. Has anyone tried going to a 10W30 oil or something like that? Does the leak get worse over time?

I have a flattened box under my truck now just to keep an eye on it - no actual drips at this point so I’m just going to keep an eye on it. I kept the same rated oil but did go to a high mileage oil just incase it helps

Just wanted to update. I unbolted and swung the power steering pump out of the way and sealed the outside of the timing chain cover with Permatex. It took me 2 tries, 2nd time I used a little extra! I’m well aware that it looks like shit…. but it’s still dry 5000 miles later!

Perfect job ! There is no pressure there . I wouldn’t even sand it . Just paint it with gray and once in a while take a look . I think you will be ok . It really isn’t a big deal. Years ago all motors leaked everywhere. This is basically a seep that accumulates and 99 percent of the time is an annoyance

Thanks! It’s hidden once the pump is back on. It barely affected my oil level, but for a few occasional drips, it sure made a mess.

I can’t remember seeing any one with a gushing leak there. So most of the time it’s a annoyance leak

Anyone have a part number for the gasket? I'm going to be working on my 2016 this weekend and planned to pull the PS off and seal up the area from the outside, but I might also replace this gasket in the process.

That looks suspect like a porous castingor a flaw. I would lookmore in that direction this time. GL

You're not going to be able to successfully sand or paint silicone gasket sealer.

OP, congrats. Out of sight, out of mind, and likely a permanent fix.

This is a cover to access the timing chain tensioner. Mine was dirty, I cleaned the area and torqued bolts a bit. Have not seen any seepage around for a while. The gasket is a metallic one. You can take the cover and spread the sealer and tight bolts.

    How’s the repair holding up?

I’m sealing mine up for the second time as well. I didn’t use enough the first time and it seeped right away. So far today it’s looking much better. Not sure mine will be completely dry but if it can slow it down to minimal seepage I’ll be happy.

Well, my 2nd attempt appears to be only slightly better than the first. I ended up with too much RTV in the area and couldn't get the water pump to slide back in all the way so I removed most of the RTV and left a much smaller amount than originally planned. Had one drop on the bottom of the PS pump this morning, so not 100% dry like I had hoped. I'll wait for another break in my schedule and attempt it later for a 3rd time, I really want to fix this issue!

Now, maybe this is a dumb question, but could I stuff some pig mat material up between the PS and the engine and let that absorb the oil and maybe keep it from dripping down? Any chance that it gets hot enough to catch on fire? I don't think it would, but I'm wondering anyone else has done something similar.
