I just want to kick this f*ing truck off the cliff. So I was having those issues a while back and a new battery seemed to have fixed it. Some time after that it would come back in and out, now, its on solid. So I thought a new battery would fix the problem as the current battery is not that old but it has died a few times when the truck sat, and I figured maybe it sulfated. Anyways, dropped 150 bucks today...

Brake comes up, temp jumps, rpms jump, traction, brake, abs, etc. looks like a xmas tree.

So I run the tech stream and it showed some codes and i cleared everything and started over. Since those may have been from the previous time, like i said i dont drive this truck that much. I run the tech stream clear the abs memory, re calibrate the yawl and pitch, and everything was fine UNTIL I REMOVED the plug from the OBD2 port restart and it was all over again. Every single time the same thing. At one point the abs code was CAN com off I believe. Cleared that, and on the last reading before making this post and starting, stop, restart, etc. That CAN issue did not appear. However, the DTC codes would always appear even if I cleared them. NOt sure if thats normal?

    Codes:

    c1271 - 78
    c1281 - 83
    c1379

    Video:

    https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/e957...ey=p3lg0repwfmfn8nut3eczvzdv&st=mm9bcj8b&dl=0

Aftermarket: Amp and subwoofer. No longer connected to power on truck as I was trying to diag. Relay wire off of brights fuse under the hood. Rough Country speedo recalibrate behind the cluster, put a 3 inch lift bigger tires.

Can anyone tell me where to start? Dont really want to go to the dealer, but might have to break down and go...

    Thanks

On a side note, not sire if related or not, several years ago some person backed into me by the rear driver side panel and barely pushed it in. does the harness wrap around that area?

So things work fine as long as you have a scan tool plugged in?

Yes, at least that it what i discovered currently. The previous issues were the same but would go away one cleared. Then come back later on. This time as mentioned the vehcile has been sitting a while, and I know the batt died a few times, forgot to reconnect trickle charger, so i assumed this time the batt was bad. Replaced the battery same problem. I have the tech stream. If someone could guide me through what to do I would appreciate it. Maybe its something simple. Last resort is stealer. Thanks'

As feedback, I had the vehcile running for live streaming, no issue at all, no lights nothing. No codes in the stream. As soon as shut down and unplugged the port plug and restarted the vehicle the issues came back.

Being it works with a scan tool connected and is broken when it's disconnected I suspect a bad ground because scan tools typically bridge Pin 4 (Chassis Ground) and Pin 5 (Sensor Ground) when connected.

Check voltage across pins 4 and 5 of the DLC with a meter and well see if I'm right.

Whatever the conditions are when the problem is occurring so probably engine running.

I checked the voltage with the dmm between 4 and 5 and it read zero. To clarify I put the probe on pin 4 and the other probe on pin 5. Hope that was right.

This is with the key on?

Are you sure your on the correct pins?

Note that Toyota's OBD ports are typically upside down from that picture.

Interesting, hmm unhook the battery and check resistance between pins 6 and 14 of the DLC and also between 6 and 4 then 6 and 16 and post those readings.

I haven't looked at the other links you posted yet but do you have a full list of codes that keep coming back and the modules that are setting them?
