I have a 2017 that just made it to 70K miles. I've never had anything done with the transmission so I'm thinking maybe I should have had it serviced or something by now. I take it in regularly for oil changes at the local dealership but they have never mentioned anything about the transmission.

Just wondering if I should have it serviced or flushed or anything? I did request they check the transmission not long after I purchased it from that same dealership and they said there was a computer tune up they could do and fix any issues. I really haven't had any issues with it other than the leaking cargo light that took forever for them to fix correctly.

You should have the transmission serviced.
If it were me, I'd have the fluid changed. At a minimum do a drain and fill.
Then consider a pan drop and filter change at 110-120k. (or sooner)

I did a drain and fill at 75K on my 2014 4runner. Its easy but unless you have a way to read ATF temps, you can pay the stealership $399 to do it.

Doubt you fall under "severe use". Just drain/fill every 60k miles, easy peasy. Several good youtube videos, dont pay a dealer to do it

    Working now a list
I had my trans done on my 17, also chagrined the trans filter.

It shifted really nice after the service.

I had the dealer do it as to set fluid level the trans needs to be a certain temp.

Had the dealership do mine at around 80 along with both front and rear differential.

My dealership charges around $300 for a drain and fill. It's on my list as well as the diff/transfer case service. Doesn't hurt to have it done.

Super easy to do a drain and fill. Have a paperclip or short piece of wire handy? Perfect, you can do it correctly in your garage or out on the street!

Check to make sure you can get the fill bolt open before you start...then follow the proper procedure (none of that measure what came out and put that much back shenanigans)
