    Hi All,

I drove my truck to work yesterday and when I went to leave my truck would crank but not start. I had a co worker try to give me a jump but no dice. Figured it was the battery so I put a brand new red top in the truck and it cranks but still doesn't start. I checked fuses interior and under hood and they all look good. Its not clicking so i don't think its the alternator. Battery is hooked up correctly, lights are bright and everything is powered. Fuel pump seems to be humming/working. Any idea what the problem could be? Its a 2017 TRD off road with 80K and push to start. Everything is factory electrical wise and only mods are a TRD intake and VF tune.

One other bit is that the engine caught momentarily and died after a battery disconnect / terminal touch.

Pretty sure tonered mentioned it already but could be the CPS (crankshaft position sensor)

Well the truck is at the dealership currently. The technician worked on it for two hours with no luck getting it started. They did ask if I had any modifications which other than a TRD intake I said no. Hopefully I will hear something Monday.

Yeah I told them had an ecu flash. He was asking about any type of installed electrical parts or performance parts anywhere on truck.

I've seen a bad power steering pump/rack & pinion cause the truck to not start. Too much load I suspect in that case. Not sure about yours since it doesn't sound like your power steering has been over-stressed with larger tires or anything else.

Wow. I can't even imagine the diagnostic flow chart that would drill down to that, if there wasn't a DTC.

The repair manual does say added load from faulty components and even specifically mentions power steering.

    Thank goodness for that breadcrumb.

What a silly thing though when the MTs have Clutch Start Cancel. I drove like 300yds on that when I ran out of fuel once. LoL!

I’m assuming they checked if it has spark and it’s getting fuel. It’s gotta be one of the two it’s not getting

Not really, the rate at which “good” techs are leaving the industry, is faster than the rate of new tech who know how to diagnose issues.

There was recent survey done by a major ford dealer service manager asking “former techs” why they left the industry

    Stress was the major factor.
    Followed closely by pay.

With fewer techs in the shop, the “better” are being called upon to do more. Which pulls them off more technical jobs.

We are in a downward spiral. Not sure what the fix is?

Understandable. But, diving deeper into this issue, several of us are stumped by it. Usually, TW can nail a fix. Hahaha!

I just skimmed over the post.
I’m not near as familiar with the 3rd Gen trucks as the 2nd Gens.
So I don’t “usually” offer much advice on the 3.5

Sorry. I was alluding to offline stuff that @TacomaGuy36 and I were chatting about and I was relaying to friends looking for a solution.
