Yeah, I don't want to trim either on my truck. But I love my 285's! I just try to not turn hard. They only rub on the uca a little when turned all the way

I have stock uca's. Everything on there is stock except for the tires. I haven't changed anything yet since I got the truck. The previous owner put them on there. Once I can get my two daughters out of college, I'll start investing more! Lol.

I run BFG KO2 285/75/16 on TRD Pro wheels. The only rubbing was on the OEM mud guards. I pulled them off and put on some Rokblokz. Problem solved. I had a 3" OME lift but after steel bumpers, winch, armor, sliders, RTT, bed rack, etc. It brought it down to a little less than 2.5". I think you are good to go. I take mine down some pretty rough fire roads without a problem. Before I got the pro wheels I did have rubbing on the UCA and needed to use a 1" spacer with the OR wheels. Not anymore.

BFG's always run smaller than listed too. I had to trim a lot for 285 Nittos on no lift. Clears the cab mount and uca's tho. Sema rims, no rubbing after the trimming.

Where was the rub, fender? The SEMA wheels do push the tire out a bit.

They rubbed the stock mud flaps and a small piece of the rear wheel well plastic. Most of the rubbing was on the front plastic wheel well, where I removed a solid 6inch by 6 inch section on both sides. I'm just happy they clear the cab mount and UCA's

Sorry OP, the usual resident dick heads along with shit posts is somewhat common on the 3rd gen side.

Moving on to something more positive.
You are defiantly getting an upgrade with the 2017 Tacoma.
You got a bitchin deal on the parts and truck.
There are a few good posts in here but I would do alittle research and look over a few of the other threads with people running similar setups.

Regardless of my opinion on your setup the biggest question I would ask is what you plan to use your truck for?

I'm partial to Fox and the particular kit your looking at is 100% OEM in the sense that toyota and fox engineers worked on this setup together. You can't beat factory support and warranty.

    Either way congrats.

Just getting Kings is not the "right" way to do it. There are many different options that people are happy with, especially since AFAIK you don't have Kings on your truck.

I have an Icon Stage2 lift of 2.85". Wheels are 17x9 Helo (-12 offset and 4.5" backspace), Tires are 285/70R17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I have very minimal rubbing when in reverse going downhill and it is not enough to warrant any trimming. When the tires lose a little tread, it'll stop. I say go for it. I could probably stop the rubbing with a little sandpaper (that's how minimal it is).

Can someone explain to me why a tire may rub in reverse but not going forward at the same turning angle? Mine does that too

My guess is that since factory castor isn't high, the wheel sits further back in the well. When you reverse, the body might shift subtly enough to rub. Most people say it rubs against the mud flaps.

How much preload did you put on it? I think I have around .5" thread showing before the limit but I'm only at 2.25" with my Icons.

Nice looking truck. I have been reading about the Icon Stage 4 lifts. Seems most are are able to run a 285 with no rubbing as long as the wheel has a 4.75 backspacing and no wider then 8.5".
