I think the firmer suspension of the sport is better for hauling and towing. Also handles better on road. If you go Off Road a lot then the Off Road is the model for you. But all the other Tacoma models do well Off Road too.

some really great feedback in this thread, For the money of the Off Road, I think the sport is over priced. I love the looks of the sport, but the stock tires SUCK. If your into offroading, then the OR is better choice. However, lots of folks change all the suspension and what not almost immediately. My sport will go off road, and will do everything I need it to do, about the 5% of the time I take it off the pavement. The other 95% I'm on pavement and love how it handles.

I went with off road because I wanted a short bed with auto and that's the only way I can get it until 2018 in Canada (other than Pro). Don't plan to do much off road but like the way the suspension feels on road. These trucks handle poorly no matter what trim you get when you get down to it. I have my little rwd 3 series for spirited street driving . :burnrubber:

I heard that the Limited are going to be short beds for 2018.

Which tires came with yours? There were three different possibilities, I believe. Goodyear Wrangler, Toyo Open Country A30 (mine), and something else. I have been happy enough with the Toyos in the dry and wet so far. Given the price on TireRack though, I won't be using them again when it comes time.

I've taken the stock Toyo A30s on a few forest service roads. They did fine. I get a bit nervous on real rocky terrain because of the weak rating but so far, so good. If I were a highway driver I'd be real happy. My truck is 90% school shuttle, costco, home depot and burrito fetcher, so nearly all city. I have like 7 open tabs on other tires I want but don't want to dump these stockers yet.

I'm in the same boat. Being in sunny California I don't need 4wd and the associated cost and mpg hit. I am curious if the 2wd OR still has crawl controller? Can anyone confirm?

I would disagree with "These trucks handle poorly no matter what trim" statement, my sport handles pretty freaking good. No it's not a sports car.

Toyos, and they suck in the snow. And I am sure they are there to help the ride of the sport, but should have never been put on a truck.

I've been thinking about heading up the mountains to try the Taco out in early snows. Thanks for the heads up.

What did you find? Loose rear, braking, cornering, bad even in 4wd, or everything?

That's the third tire. I now remember seeing that somewhere.

    Thanks!

Didn't buy really use 4 wheel, never really do, just at intersections. Just felt the traction was crap, and I couldn't drive like I typically would in snow.

All I'm saying is no one buys these things for how they handle. Or at least they shouldn't.

That chart doesn't specify which models where tested.

I'm comparing it to my last truck, a 2010 4Runner. That thing was like riding on a cloud, the TRD Sport is like what I'd imagine a Ford Model T to feel like. (Ok, that's obviously an exagerration)

A few listed in the signature
I personally went with an off road but here are the differences that I see:

    Offroad
    - no hood scoop which helps visibility.
    - locking rear if you need it
    - Bilstein 4600s which are softer and cushion more. I like the ride more personally
    - non painted fender flares
    - 16" tires which are a bit beefier
    - crawl control, which was nice when I got really stuck. It actually worked.
    - chrome bumper end caps for some trims. Mine has painted in Canada
    - 8.75" rear differential
    - cheap metal skid plate that was good for 2-3 hits before I got a better one

    Sport
    - hood scoop which looks nice, blocks visibility but adds extra bracing to the hood so your hood doesn't separate
    - Hitachi shocks which are firmer and from what I've priced out a little cheaper
    - painted fender flares, your taste may vary
    - 17" tires which are more street oriented
    - painted bumper end caps
    - 8" rear differential
    - front plastic chin spoiler that will rip off and less protection overall

Should sum it up nicely for you.

What is this chart illustrating? Acceleration? Lateral? Gayness? And why would the GMC fare higher than the Chevy?
