    Ok,

I value the opinions here, good or bad!

    I am in my early 50's, I know-OLD!

I have owned many vehicles cars and trucks, new and old! I have never owned a 4x4, never felt the need for one!

Fast forward to now, I want one and why! Well because I can and so I can mark off the 4x4 thing! I plan on road trips, some fishing and camping and the beach! I am a 100% disabled vet and because of my conditions I have not much left my house because of my anxieties and PTSD and if any have these you now what I mean and where I'm coming from!

I feel I owe it to my wife and daughters being I have neglected them with the above, rising, camping road trips and such! I want to give it a try and through the help from the VA with constant therapy and group meeting I feel I want to try!

So, here is my situation, I own a 2016 Tacoma TRD OR 2wd loaded and with a 2 1/2" list/level, only 2000 miles on it and new BFG KO2 and SCS Ray 10's, only owe $13,000.00

I miss my 2010 Tundra DC 5.7 Super White for the room, power and handling. Traded it in because the tranny was giving bad problems and TOYOTA jacked with me from the start saying it was the technology and the tranny was supposed to skip and soul like rubbing to metal trash can lids together grinding, but it got worse!

    Looking at:

2017 Tacoma TRD PRO Cement or White $47,000 ?

2017 Tundra TRD PRO DC Cement or White $47,000 ?

2017 Tundra TRD PRO CM Cement or White $49,000 ?

Thanks for input and don't mean to bother you with my disability stuff but thought you could better understand why I want to try a 4x4!

Well since you own a Tacoma currently and have owned a tundra in the past, that will be a huge indication of which you kinda perfer. Honestly I think since your looking at the PRO lines your best bet would be the tundra. Unless the truck is too big and your worried about MPG. I kinda feel like the taco pro is way to overpriced. If you wanted to stick with a Tacoma I would just get a OR or sport 4x4

Oh and thank you for your service! And I really hope you can get going again! I'm glad your getting some motivation! Get out there and enjoy life with the family!

Well I'm 49 and I went from a 3/4 ton diesel Dodge to a Tacoma!

I think you need to get what you want and like the most- you deserve it!

Thank you for your service and sacrifices. I have served in the Air Force and spent several tours in the sandbox. I have some good days and some bad days, but I get through pretty well.

Now about the trucks. Since you had a Tundra before, you are aware of the parking and gas mileage. If you are o.k. with those, you will be much more comfortable with the Tundra, especially the Crew Max on road trips.

I believe it's important to pay off existing debts prior to getting any more, so since you owe on the Taco, pay it off first, and see how you feel then.

It sounds like you just want a new toy and are looking for an excuse to justify it to yourself. I know that feeling all too well.

The activities you've described are easily doable in your current 2wd Taco. Get out there and do what you think you want/need to do. If the Taco really doesn't cut it at THAT point, then look into the Tundra.

That said, there's a good chance you'll be happier in the Tundra. Is it worth the financial cost of this change? Probably not, but that's for you to decide.

Ride of the Tundra PRO is superior , A lot more space , seats are spacious and have more comfort .Price is not an issue here , they both going for the same price almost. Tundra has endless power , you can feel the torque at any RPM , which brings me to the gas , 11 miles to the gallon city and 17 highway , if I remember right it take 7.5 quarts of oil every 5000 miles (about $130 oil changes ). Just traded this 15 PRO for a 16 Tacoma offload . IMG_0262.jpg

PROs are ok , no worth the money , after a few months driving one ,you realized that is just a plain truck , with an amazing suspension . Just installed Fox suspension and TK0 2 tires on my 15 Tacoma, and I am almost there, where I was with my Tundra PRO. Just remember after the presidential election , we do not know where the gas prices are going to be , Tundra gas consuption is ridiculous .

How do you know his Tacoma isn't payed off? And if it isn't what does it really matter? In sure if he isn't in the financial situation to make a switch he wouldn't do it. He already stated his main reason for the switch is so that he can start taking trips with his family and doing things with them, after not having been able to do much suffering from PTSD. In my eyes even if he loses a bit of money making a switch, what it's going to do to help that family of it brings them closer together and they spend some quality time together would be well worth it

He said he still owes 13,000 on the Taco. But if he is trading that in then that should be cleared plus a bit more.
Yea you are right, its his money and his family, and family is more important.

Here's how we know. Why it matters is OP posted that he is a 100% disabled vet. That means a fixed income on his end. None of us here fully know his financial situation but for someone on a fixed income, $13,000 can be a lot.

Geno, thanks for your service and hats off to you for getting help for your ptsd. As a vet myself I have seen it affect many people and families.
As far as which truck to get, that's a tough call. If money was not a factor I would go with a Tundra 4x4 and put a nice lift on it, a nice set of tires under it and call it good. I think ALL of the PRO's are overpriced for what you get. Which ever one you choose, go out and spend that time with your family.

    Front sight,

Thanks you for your service and understanding, Much appreciated!

Thanks to the good Lord I am situated ok financially and I am able to afford it now! Yes things were tight for many years but now things financially are better.

I hear you on the Tundra 4X4 non-pro advice, I have seen many of them on here and ironically they look better then the Pro's but didnt know if getting that look would cost more then a Pro in the long run!

My 2010 Tundra DC seemed plenty of room for us 4 but never owned the CM, but I guess the DC 4X4 woes cost less overall.

Either way the CD and CM are both awesome and it's funny the only reason I lean towards a CM is the whole rear window powers down vs the DC I had the slider powered but don't know if the new models of the DC have the power rear slider!

    Again,

Thanks you all for your help and kind words!

Did you get the 4X4 and how do you like it compared to the Pro you had, any regrets!

I'd vote if you have the space to park and the wallet, go for the Tundra, the 5.7L is an awesome engine.

    Lawfarin,

Thanks so much for the comment!

Thankfully I am debt free and financially sound but not so a few years back, it was a rough ride! Without the support from my wife and two daughter I can tell you I might not be here today! I know it may sound cliche but I do owe it all to the good Lord because without him and family I would have never been able to recover!

Yes, the 5.7 in my 2010 was a beast and being I didn't drive far, gas didn't matter! But I see the new Tundra have a large 30plus gallon tank!

First, thank you for your service.

IMO, I suggest keep the truck you have. Instead of spending all that dough on a new truck, spend it on the vacations you want to take your family on. The memories of the vacation will not be about the vehicle that took you there.

The type of vacationing you mention you can easily get by with your current 2wd Taco.

^^ This. Agreed 100%. Spend that money on the vacations with your family, you already have a really nice truck set-up. Unless you are worried about space for everyone + luggage/gear. Then that is a different story. Or, just throw a camper shell on it and call it a day.

    Good luck with everything.
