What would the consequences be for over tightening the ubolt nuts on the rear axle?

Over tightening the nuts on the rear axle u-bolts could possibly lead to a failure of the bolts. When you torque something to a set value you are actually stretching the item, here the u-bolt, to where it will keep the nut on it under pressure and from loosening up. When a mechanic tightens a race motors connecting rod bolts, they actually measure the length of the bolt tightened compared to the length of the bolt free sitting and un-tightened. What they are actually measuring is the amount the bolt has stretched, more accurate than torque value. Overtightened means overstretched and could lead to possibly snapping the bolt.

Oh, okay I understand what and why torque specifications are implemented in regards to the life of the bolt, I thought you meant over-tightening the bolt could directly cause axle wrap or some type of drive line issue. My bad and thanks

Havn't happen to many times in the Tacoma, happened a lot in my quad cab dakota. After checking for loose/worn items, spare tire, bushings, etc.. I just assumed it was fuel sloshing around in the tank. Seemed like it happen the most with the tank at about 3/4 full.

Oh, and yeah, my 18 TRD Sport has done the jerk thing a couple of times. Happens also when cold and it definitely feels like it is dropping into first gear on a downshift right before the truck is actually stopped. Never happened after it was already stopped.

Now that I have 500 miles on my TRD, I noticed the "jerk" happens when I stop, start, then stop again before the truck gets through the normal range of shifting. It does not do it if I am able to get far enough to get into the upper gears.

I have another question, why does the truck have a decal on the rear of the bed that says it is a "TRD OFF ROAD" when it is actually a "TRD SPORT" I asked the salesman that, since it is not a 4 X 4. I guess it is because of the suspension? I told the salesperson that I guess i could get off the road, but getting back on may be a little tricky?

Do you have a hood scoop or a locker? They probably put the wrong stickers on. I've seen that before.

I haven't seen this issue with my 17 Pro but I had a similar issue with my 07 FJ. Something in the traction control system does not like the heavy paint road markings. If it is the least bit wet or slippery I will feel something similar to what the OP posted.

No scoop, probably the reason as all vehicles I seen with the scoop, was marked "Sport"

Sounds like you have an off road. Salesman are often very uninformed. Looking for my 2018 was frustrating, one inaccurate statement after another. Multiple dealerships.

Spoke with my "real" salesman (gone to california when transaction made) He says it is an "off road" no mistake. The locking differential is the reason they call it such. Thanks you guys!

Not sure if you ever got this resolved, but it sounds like there was some bent axles causing this. Known problem now. It also warped the breaks.

Just returned from 1600 mile trip and while in DC, did not notice it all. Too busy watching my fellow auto operator I guess. But I had reported that mine seemed to be more noticeable in stop and go traffic. Have since noticed it in longer driving situations, but not a regular thing/////
