man I’ve been busy! Too long since an update!

So it took over 3 weeks to get the door leak resolved. At first the dealership was unable to reproduce the leak, but still noticed the rubber trim at the top was whack so they ordered a new piece. Upon installation of the new piece it was apparent the sheet metal that the trim attaches too was majorly tweaked, so off to the body shop.

Waited two weeks and the car was ready for pickup. The service manager was appalled to find a giant dent right overtop the rear passenger door caused by the body shop. Since they were out of some special paint ingredient it lived at the body shop for another week before it was ready to be picked up.

not the worst experience, as they cleaned the drains for free instead of originally charging me for that service. Also they let me take the loaner on a long trip with no issues so that was nice too. My car basically sat inside for most of the snowstorms and crappy road conditions so that’s a bonus I guess.

    the loaner:

I will miss its heated steering wheel, but it’s great having this car back

In other news, the headlights on this car are junk and borderline dangerous at night, so I'm on the hunt for some nice replacements.

Eds BEC replicas aren't being made anymore and they were $700 to $800 new so more than I'd like to spend

    https://www.fastuningstore.com/prod...-vw-mk7-golf-gti?_pos=11&_sid=fdaccd8ab&_ss=r

These at ECS have been backordered since I first looked at these in July 2021:

    https://www.ecstuning.com/b-helix-parts/mk75-style-headlight-set-chrome-trim/hvwg7hl-75c2~hlx/

    https://www.ecstuning.com/b-helix-parts/projector-headlight-set-with-chrome-strip/hvwg7hl-c2~hlx/

And the Vland and ebay ones have crappy output so they're out. Used seems to be the only way to go.

There is a lighting package but my car didn't get it. somehow got the fender audio and driver assist package though!

Basically you can't run a 2018 or newer headlight or even an OEM lighting package one from what I understand, as the computer won't be happy.

WAY worse than the tacoma. The original 2006 cloudy stock headlights were better than my 2017 Alltrack headlights lol

Hmm. Wonder if it's as simple as some VCDS magic. When I upgraded to the Golf R LED taillights I had to do some coding in order to get them to work. I can check with a couple of friends and see what's up.

Yeah, my thought is OEM would likely be expensive AF as well. I found a set of used Eds BEC Replicas that are plug and play and it's local so hopefully I can snag those. Pretty rare that those even pop up and if they do they sell for like $700

Do it right. Retrofit in some Bi-Xenon projectors.

Just dropped a buddy off at our local VW dealer to get his Atlas back from recall work and they had this same car in a 2019. Super tempting, but about 10K higher than I'd have liked. Had it been low/mid-20s I may have bought it thanks to this thread.

Manual is rare af! the only thing with them is if you even do a tune you need to upgrade the clutch. worth it IMO if you can find one.

I'd love a green one with a peanut butter interior personally
