Just buy the dual bumper!!!! You will not regret it. Everyone where I am are constantly looking at my truck in awe!! OR more then likely, why the hell would he do that to his pickup.

Excellent!! I love your build thread by the way. When you picking up the new camper?

I check your build occasionally ... I have a 3rd gen, intrigued by the AluCab shell ... and just caught up a bit. I’m not far from New Idria aka “Clear Creek” and first went there in the early ‘80’s. It used to be more open, then totally closed, now accessible with a day permit from the local BLM office. The water crossing you show is actually about that depth year-round. It’s the mud on the dirt portions of those roads that can be really greasy when it’s wet. Glad you had fun in the little bit of dirt we have around here!

Awesome! I need to update this thread, lots of new stuff happening.

I just sold my Alu-Cab shell for a Vagabond Drifter, but I still think if someone wants a shell for their truck the Alu-Cab is hands down the best option. It's not the cheapest, but it's not THAT much more than a standard fiberglass one and is so much better.

Yeah, I’m looking at (and have actually seen) the Drifter too. I have a glass shell now and it’s ... OK, but not what I want to keep longterm. Not too hijack your thread, but here’s the water crossing last May, which admittedly was the wettest year here in decades, but I recall riding through in the dry season and it was about the same depth. The RAV 4 would have done OK I suspect, and the bottom is now hard paved, though slimy, so it’s pretty predictable on 4 wheels. I’ve seen 2wd sedans out there even with this much water, when the rest of the road is dry.

    Had some major changes recently.

Decided to give up my apartment lease and live out of my truck for the summer so I sold my Alu-Cab stuff and picked up a Vagabond Drifter from @Overlanerd and @Iggy

I've been asked a few times why I sold my Alu-Cab stuff so I will talk about it briefly here. I think independently the Alu-Cab Explorer Canopy and Expedition Tent are the best products in the industry in their specific product market, but I don't think it makes any sense when you combine the two.

Need a lightweight, strong, and secure canopy? Then get the Alu-Cab.

Need a great RTT? Get the Alu-Cab

But once you combine the two on a Tacoma it just makes no sense when you compare it to something like the Drifter or the GFC which allow you to utilize your bed space as additional living space.

So a dude drove up from SoCal and we swapped out the Alu-Cab stuff in a parking lot, and I managed to upsell a friend and he bought my Wilco.

It was pretty weird to have an open bed on my pickup, but the timing on it was perfect as I was able to use it for moving.

I finished packing up my apartment and left Seattle April 27th for Benecia, CA to pick up my Vagabond Drifter. Unfortunately, Phil had emailed me a couple weeks before and told me that my camper would not be ready in time but that I could borrow their first/test unit aka "Zero" which was super generous of them, and much appreciated.

I had a tight schedule as I needed to be in Fayetteville, NC by May 3rd as a friend and old business partner was graduating an Army course and receiving his Green Beret.

Spent the first night passed out near Donner Pass.

    IMG_2200.jpg

Second night was near Bonneville Salt Flates in Utah. The dog loves the Drifter!

Stopped by Equipt Expendition Outfitters on the way through to pick up an Alu-Box with a Goose Gear step plate. $$$$$ but really nice product. Paul goes "is that the new Habitat?" when he saw my rig. :annoyed:

    Third night was in Nebraska

Fourth night was spent in Tennessee. No pics unfortunately.

What is the make/model of the ladder and ladder brackets? Casey at free spirit recreation sounds like he has no idea about the brackets. Any chance you have the part numbers you ordered from them? Thanks

I can’t remember who I dealt with but some of their tents have the brackets on them.
