    hi all,

2017 DCSB Pro, 28xxx miles. Original battery. No electrical mods other than pop and lock.

Today when I went to start, I pushed the brake and start button and all the normal lights popped on, but the starter never turned.
The MFD screen went black along with the backlight on the gauges, the warning lights were all still illuminated. Again, the starter wasn’t turning but this mysterious ticking was coming from inside the dash cluster. See attached video.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dn7mXP4Am4M&feature=youtu.be

I got out and made sure the battery was connected properly with no loose fittings (there were none), and when I re opened the door and tried again it worked like normal.

Anybody else had an issue like this? It seemed to be a brain fart on the starter logic or something, and it kind of fixed itself, but I don’t want to be looking at something worse so close to warranty expiration.

Low battery will do that, I'd pull it and have it tested (most chain auto parts stores will test them for free).

If that is an OE battery, I would just replace it at that age. They don't last.

Update: Got the battery tested, and it's pretty much dead in the water. I'll find a replacement one and keep my jumper charged just in case. Hopefully it won't escalate further than that! thanks for the tips yall.

That battery should be fine if it hasn't been sitting. 2 years is nothing. Still has half its life. You are right though since it is already halfway done they might as well upgrade.

If you are under the 36 months warranty, take it to the dealer. It is still covered and they will give you a brand new one.

My OEM battery lasted exactly 3 years and 1 month. Ask me how I know??!?!!

But yeah. Same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago. Start the car and all you hear is the starter clicking. Time for a new battery!

In AZ people are lucky to get 2.5 to 3 years out of a battery. The desert heat kills them. So what you posted may be true for your part of the country. Not so much for those in the lower elevations of Arizona.

I wish I at least had an option for a working battery. Dealership told me to kick rocks.

Imagine hearing that in the middle of nowhere. Go get a emergency battery starter.

I lucked out, i brought my truck in at 35 months and 2 weeks just to get all the warranty issues done and i mentioned that my battery was having a harder time starting the truck, they tested it and found it bad and got it replaced. On another note, my wifes Lexus has a 48month warranty and her battery went out at 49 months....go figure..i took my new battery out of my truck and put it in her Lexus, since it is the same 24F, and I bought myself a new AGM 27F for the Tacoma.
