The concern was identifying whether or not a truck has has the software applied. I answered that.

I expect that all new production going forward would have the new software. It better have it, I passed on a 2016 OR AC deal, $3k off MSRP.

The 2017's will still have the same inherent issue of a somewhat heavy mid-size truck with a lacking low end torque engine that was engineered to attain fuel mileage numbers from a US agency that has pipe dreams that we all care about saving this planet's ozone layer!

At low speeds mine still hunts after having the TSB applied. Also, the shifting has degraded over time and mileage back to nearly preTSB. The TSB did fix the R to D delay though. I'm convinced the engine trans is poorly integrated and the AI , overtime, makes it even worse. This is my 4th Tacoma and 6th Toyota. So I'm somewhat of a fan, but this Tacoma is below average compared to the previous gens. That's my opinion. My wife's 2013 limited 4R is plain awesome.

EPA is responsible for the engine choice, air dam, and even the inclusion of a factory tonneau cover on a minimum percentage of units sold. Also responsible for the fact that many models available overseas that might appeal to the US market(by Toyota and others) cannot be sold here because it would mess with the "average mileage" figures.

Well if we dont, the gubment can just tell the industry to quit making them or turning them into electric / hybrids. You can get a lot of torque from an electric motor.

The auto industry as a whole went this way back in the 70s and 80s. Horrible time to find a vehicle then. Although trucks were excluded then it wouldn't be hard to include them next time.

The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) states that an optional feature cannot be considered in EPA MPG estimates unless it is expected to be included on 2/3 of that model. Initial leak targeted 30%; all Limited trim (turned out not to be included in Limited trim).

Knowing the way software works because I've worked in the industry I will say with my professional and expert opinion it is more likely than not that the software does impact other performance ramifications of the transmission operation

I am driving a 2017 SR5 DC 2.7 right now as a loaner vehicle while my truck is in the shop. I just went outside to move it and it seemed to have a delay going into drive to me. I am not used to the 4 cyl engine though. This 2017 was manufactured this month.I just picked it up today. I will pay attention to it over the next couple of days to see if for sure it has a delay or not. I actually am not sure if the R-D delay was even a problem with the 4cyl models or not.

My mid July 2016 hung up once while in cruise (less than 100 miles) and I had 2-3 instances of delayed R to D, all of this occurred within the first 500 miles. Now at 1,400 I have not experienced ANY of the noted automatic trans problems people have mentioned. I did have it in just after the 500 mile mark to check the ATF level which I was told was low by less than a quart. Since that trip to the dealer I have experienced zero point zero problems.

My truck was assembled on July 30th of 2016. Should I just check the trams level before the truck leaves the lot? A quart of fluid missing is not cool on a new truck

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but the transmission update was a 4 item fix. I feel more low end torque. I believe when I had mine done it was for r to d, more lower end power, cruise control getting stuck in 4th gear at high revs, and one other thing I don't recall. I personally noticed a huge improvement. I swear the transition between gears (transmission shifts) are much smoother. Engagement from r to d is solid, but everything is much smoother. Like it should be
