Traded in my 16 and bought a 17 today. There's a very noticeable difference in the transmission. It shifts a lot smoother and there's no hesitation.

All with 6 cylinder automatic transmission problems: I started a new 3rd gen thread to encourage people to pull together and engage Toyota through their 800 number. Please read the thread, and let's all band together and get something done.

Well that thread shows not much has changed between 2nd and 3rd gen frames.

So what, did every frame fail?

Lol, is that what we are resorting to? If a roach was found in a box if pizza, would you still eat the slices it didn't touch?

It seems like all the frames have issues. I believe one of the guys in that thread was located in Florida. The 3rd gens in the rust belt will be hit the hardest. They'll be lucky if their frames survive 4-5 years. Toyota had 3 generations to fix the issue.

Your roach analogy would conclude I never eat pizza again, not a good analogy.....

Planes fall out of the sky but I still fly. Cars crash but I still drive. I own a first gen thats 12 years old and it's frame didnt rust away even though it was more susceptible than the 2nd gen.

If they do rust in 4-5 years I'd expect toyota to replace them again like they have in the past, precident has already been set.

    Just a fear monger....

It took a lot of phone calls to Corporate and 4 years to get the frame replacements going on the 2nd gen. They know people will buy these trucks with the issues it has hence why it seems like nothing has been done to fix the frame issue for the 3rd gen.

I'm not a fear monger, I'm just a man trying to make an educated decision on a $40,000 purchase. I can't throw my money on it yet if they haven't fixed the issues that has plagued them in the past. Slim chances to none if they fix it by the refresh.

Then do your research, make your decision, buy something else and move on. Let others be content with their purchase whether it be Toyota or something else.

If you're happy with your purchase, then my concerns shouldn't bother you...

    Trust me they dont.

Like I said your paranoia in a Tacoma purchase never ceases to amaze me.

It seems like my concerns do bother you of you keep calling me paranoid over a legit issue that's been happening to Tacoma's through 3 generations.

Nope they don't bother me, spend your money as you wish. Park it in the garage, throw away the keys and hope it stays pristine so you're happy.

I'll keep driving my trucks and enjoy them instead of worrying about them.

It's not about staying pristine, it's about not having a frame fall apart in 5 years of daily driving that most other trucks have no issues with in that timeframe.

For what it is worth, I picked up my 17 last week and after 400 miles I can say I am very happy with the way it drives. There is no hesitation anywhere in the the transmission. I don't see any of the delays that I have noted in these threads and I have read most of the Gen 3 threads. Just my two cents.

Then buy something else and move on. Your fears have soured you on the brand anyway so why stoke it.

From the 2017 I test drove, the Toyota seems to getting it's act together. If they can fix that frame, CPS, and rear diff, I might purchase one. I will wait for the refresh, which may be the same time the 2018 or 2019 Ford Ranger comes out. Until then, I will voice my concerns until Toyota of America addresses them through the model years. That's if they address them. I've learned not to have high hopes with the Tacoma.
