    I was going to call my sales guy whom I've been dealing with for the past 3 or so years. Usually he's able to kick-start things or lead me to a service advisor who's competent and won't give me the run-around. Luckily all I have is the gear hunting issue.

    Had my trans update today. What a difference. Only drive 70 miles but it sure shifts better and doesn't hunt going up slight hill anymore. Just hope it lasts!!

    Mine was built 10/2016 I haven't had an issue, good gas mileage (18-19 in town) 21-22 (55+mph for 12ish miles)

    I also haven't been back to the dealer so not even sure if mine will require the update
    http://www.toyota.com/owners/ says nothing is out for my truck;

    I have 2017 bought in august of 2016. I have done all of the updates ( up to rev 1 ) that have came out and still have issues. The updates seem to fix it for about a week then the problems return. It is not fixed in the 2017's and don't let anyone tell you it is. I have also done the driveline vibration update and still have the issue intermittently. Unless my dealer is just lying to me and saying they are doing it ( Could be the case.). I am still having the issues. Its almost like the transmission remembers how to properly work sometimes and not others. Because some days it drives amazing. And other days the shifting is rough and throttle response is slow. On the good days its the best vehicle I have ever owned. I have been researching this issue since a month after I bought this truck. Multiple trips to the dealer and multiple updates done. With the amount of comments I have seen about this issue it is a major one. And it is irresponsible of Toyota not to do a recall to get it fixed. But then again maybe they just don't know how.

    I got my 2017 TRD OR in December.
    I've found the transmission to be particularly cumbersome. It gear hunts on minor inclines, and for whatever reason it recently started holding onto 4th gear at 2800-3000rpm@100kmh for 5-10seconds at a time. I have just over 18000km on it, and the gear holding didn't start happening till this last tank.

    I have a dealer appointment on the 28th, but if this isn't resolved in the next month I'm getting a different vehicle, it's insufferable now. I don't get how they can get away with claiming the fuel economy numbers they do when I can barely ascertain 14.0L/100k doing 120kmh on the highway. What a fucking piss off. I get better fuel economy puttin around town in traffic. The only sweet spot for fuel economy is 90kmh.

    I mean fords f150 has a six speed auto, my old man's got it. The power to weight ratio is equal but his never gear hunts like mine does. I don't know where Toyota pulled their gear ratios from but they fucked up hard on this truck if they end up determining there's nothing 'wrong' with my transmission.

    When you set out to build a race car. You start with whole project in mind an what you intentions are going to be with your race car. Other words you build your car for each part to work together an efficiently as one. If one part is over kill or is lacking it will show.

    It seems that Toyota built this transmission an said now we have to design rest of this truck to work with this transmission. I do notice tranny seems to be not up to task unless you keep rpms up a little. I would be willing to bet that the 4.0 would work better with this tranny or 3.5 need to be unleashed a little more with low rpm torque in mind. Or they could just up ratios in 5th an 6th by .20 an I truly believe it would solve most problem. I mean 3.90s is fairly steep gear it is as if they used 3.90's to try make up for 5th an 6th gear ratios. Fourth is a 1 to 1 ratio which is what your old school 3 speed auto trannys are without overdrive. Trying running it in 4th at 55 an look at fuel mileage an rpms. Mine seems to do fine. I just use 5th in town an run 6th out on freeway or over 50 mph.
