Just what I was thinking. Seems like Toyota has really lost their direction with the Tacoma and mini-pickup market, but I am no expert. I am sure they have put a lot of money and research into their decision, if in fact they are pulling the plug on the 4 cyl/manual combo. I hate to see it go if this is true.

Don't understand the comment "you can hardly use 5th let alone a 6th", most of my miles are put on in 5th and I don't live in flat country. Anyway... if I couldn't have gotten the 4cyl 5sp 4wd, I would not have bought a Tacoma. It's a great combo for a light duty truck but I realize it's probably a very small segment of their total sales, still it would be a damn shame to see it discontinued.

I don't get the demand for DC especially for the 4 X 4 Off Road models.

AC 4 X 4 Off Road MT is the only build I would consider which isn't available.

When I did my PreRunner to 4x4 conversion I had a hard time a R155F (at least that would ship to Hawaii). I kept my R155 for parts because I didn't think anyone would buy it for parts. Now, I'm thinking it may be worth something in a couple years.

I'm wondering what's up with the marketing gurus. According to the link below, only the TRD Sport shows an Access Cab with an available manual transmission. The TRD Off-Road shows only a double cab with a manual.

3rd Gen Tacoma Model/Package/Option Costs Master List

I guess that I'll keep my base model 4 cylinder with a 5 speed much longer than I anticipated.

The 5-Speed is a better transmission than the 6-Speed. They are probably dropping it because of too much parasitic loss, that or import costs.

That being said, my 16' SR sat on the lot for 4 months because it was a stick. The 3rd gens were out for only a few months, and I was able to get $1,500 off.

Not sure why everyone is surprised that Toyota dropped the 5 speed manual. They just don't sell that many of them. Most buyers, especially younger ones, can't drive manual vehicles. it won't be too long before Toyota drops all the Tacoma manuals.

    Families and enormous car seats.

I had a 2G AC OR and when my hand got forced to replace it, I knew I'd be starting a family soon and it made sense to have something that could take the baby as well. You can't fit a car seat safely in the AC (allegedly).

I don't understand the model assortment although I suspect it's to do with the CAFE numbers, just like how the tonneau cover had to be on a certain percentage of models for that overall fleet average.

It's either that or fuel economy reasons, sadly.

If they do, this will be my first and last Tacoma. :(

If I'm forced to buy an auto, I'll have to go with a 4Runner. :D

In 5 years there might not be any trucks in NA with manual transmissions.

They won't give a rat's ass. You are only a small percentage of people who want a manual transmission. If there was a high demand for them they would still build it.
