Is it "the market" that is giving us a SR and SR5 Taco that features only a sealed automatic transmission with no provision for a dip stick ?

When demand surpasses production capacity, it's probable a good idea to first and foremost build enough product to satisfy the demand from the Lexus crowd - as opposed to pleasing a SR or SR5 group of buyers.

While "the market" may seem to be all powerful - it doesn't reflect the whole story. In addition to Toyota having a limit 175K a year production limit on Tacomas, I suspect that EPA and Government fuel mileage regs contribute to what gets produced, as well.

I don't go out of my way to be different than the herd. - However, if Toyota were to offer a SR5 two wheel drive, with 2.7 four cylinder and a six speed manual - I'd immediate trade in my 2015 4x4 before the marketing poodle dawgs change their minds.

When the SR5 designation first came out in the 70s it referred to a 5 speed manual which was a major advance since most manuals then were 3 or 4 speed. Now it has totally lost its meaning.

Also read this as, we can make more money being more efficient with our manufacturing streamlined more.

Folks lets face it, tacos sell, they don't need to discount them or run special promotions so they are going to maximise profit the best they can.

The 3rd gen Tacoma is probably going to be one of the last vehicles offered in manual in the United States.

The EPA killed the regular cab, it would have to average over 30mpg or it would have the gas guzzler tax applied to it.

Me, when I first got my truck I used to constantly try to shift to a higher gear on the interstate only to realize it was in 5th. I'd like a higher overdrive or a super low 1st.

It`s the 4 cylinder that I was referring to, not the transmission. That alone makes the truck grossly underpowered.

Yes again, most people don't do their own maintenance so why give the customer a dipstick. If Toyota saves money not manufacturing a tube and stick for the transmission the company makes more money. Which is a good thing.

Also without a dipstick Billbob won't be able to add his special additive he thinks will work wonders for the tranny then come back claiming warranty. More money saved.

Why make a 4cyl at all then? The engine is only used in the Tacoma, whereas the v6 is in multiple Toyota and Lexus vehicles, just with different tunes.

It's the other way around, people quit buying them so manufacturers started dropping them from the lineup.

Toyota does just want everyone to cash out on the higher trim models, just finding an AC is hard to do these days everything is full cab turning tacos into luxury vehicles so people who dont even take their truck out to play can look good in them.

Dropping the MT sucks but what can we do.

That's disgusting. Longo Toyota out of 120 Tacos on their lot last month. They only had 4 Access Cabs.

It IS disgusting. This TRUCK didn’t start it’s legacy as a luxury station wagon, but that’s what it will end up being anymore.

Everything else was full cabs, and in all those odd colors. I believe they had one MT taco on the lot and that was the one i traded in lol. Ridiculous

I agree it's a shame the smaller truck is disappearing, but if the taco didn't have a double cab I would have had to get something I didn't want. I miss my access cab and about break my neck when I pass a single cab, even the rust buckets are awesome. I hope with all the new competition coming up it will force some of these options again, but believe standards imposed on these auto companies force their hand along with the all mighty dollar.
