I have 8k miles and have never towed. Just normal around town commute. I am a easy to moderate driver and don't mash on the brakes. Dealer says my pads are black and the rotors are warped. Anybody have any ideas why this would happen this fast?

I am not going to have them fix it. I will do it and buy some higher quality parts. So also if you have experience with some products let me know. Thanks.

Will they cover it under warranty?

Nope. That is a "wear" part.

I figured that was the answer but with such low miles maybe they would help with a solution

I would double check that. I thought, they have to cover it 1yr/12,000miles.

Wheel alignment and balancing are the only thing covered extra in the first 12k miles. Brakes are not specifically excluded though. But the warranty covers "defects in materials or workmanship". Seems like brakes wearing out in 8k miles would by definition be defective.

If my brakes failed at 8k I would raise hell until they fixed them. Be polite but very direct that they need to cover it

Rotors are warped from shit steel or putting the wheels on with an impact wrench and over torquing it’s not uncommon. Ask the dealer what the runout on the rotors were? That would be the way to confirm they are warped. I had one that was warped at 20k miles.

Brake failure at 8k miles is due to a faulty part; not due to wear. But the question is can you prove it. Prob not.

Yes. No way to prove I have not abused the brakes. It is possible to do this if you drive hard. If I were to get them to warranty I will just end up with the same shit parts. I would rather pay extra and get parts I know are good quality.

They did find a service bulletin on the rear brakes and will be replacing those. At least I got that going for me.

When I rotated my tires at 5000 miles the brake wobble in my truck went away completely. Hundreds of complaints out there about brake wobble on new tacomas. It's not just the rotors, wheel balance can be the problem too.

My rotors were warped before 20,000 miles. I asked if it was covered, they said only for the 1st year. They gave me a quote to fix them, I said no thanks. They called me back a few minutes later and said they would turn the rotors and put new pads on for free on good faith.

Hey OP, have the dealer pull data from computer. You know the one everybody is paranoid about? It should show at least some of your driving history to prove no hard panic type braking.

Sorry to hear of your problems. In my experience, Toyota OEM is better for quality than most of the aftermarket.

Not being an ass, but are you riding your brakes down Kingsbury grade, Mt Rose, or Donner? 8k is crazy fast.
