So I have a thread on here about what happened. In short. Check engine light. Cylinder #3 bad. 4 burnt valves 78k miles. Covered under extended warranty. Been 5 weeks. Head and valve should been back from shop this Friday. Took time for engine tear done. Warranty inspection to Authorize repair send to machine shop tear down head found out more about the problems and discovered number three cylinder and four Burnt valves need to be replaced. Ordered parts parts came in yesterday now I was just told that the head gasket kit is on back order at least three weeks nationwide which means we’re looking at 6 to 7 weeks before my truck will be done total time. Is there anything I can do to have Toyota compensate me because I’m making payments on a truck I can’t drive. I have all my service records at the same dealership there was no neglect or abuse just a freak thing that happened but I can’t drive the truck that I bought and put $10,000 into instead I’m driving a little rental. Honestly bro’s I’m seriously considering selling it when you get out of the shop and buying a different brand of vehicle it sucks that I now don’t have faith in the truck I thought was indestructible

    That’s brutal

I’ve never had to deal with that so not sure what Toyota would do to compensate?

did you do Toyota finance or your own?

It sucks but IMO they are compensating you. Your truck is being fixed and you have a rental to drive.

Never heard of an intake valve burning. Did they give you a reason the valves burned? Seat, guides, something holding them open? I've never seen a 100% explanation why this happens and almost always to that cylinder.

They don’t know cause. And it seems #3 is more frequent. The dealer is compensating me with a rental. It’s financed through Toyota Finacial. I guess I should be grateful for the rental and just be patient. Am I being I reasonable? This is week 5. The ETA for gasket set went from 3 weeks yesterday to now unknown eta due to back order. He said the problem with a lot of parts being back ordered is the material he said they’re having a hard time even getting Camry air filters because of the manufacturing requires the rubber gasket around the filter and the rubber gasket around the filter is backordered in the manufacturing process. Originally I had issues with the service manager and my writer but now I’m dealing with their original writer I’ve had for four years who was on vacation so I trust him he doesn’t BS me but unfortunately bad news is bad news no matter where the source comes from but at least I know he’s giving it to me straight he’s tried to order a new engine kit rebuilt, individual, anything anyway , he’s tried every avenue he can and there’s just no way of shortcut getting this. Too many Tacomas not enough parts.

i was thinking Toyota would maybe cover a one time one month payment for the extreme inconvenience of not having parts to fix the truck I’m paying for with the extended warranty I paid for. Maybe it’s just frustration. I do have a Toyota Brand advocate with a case number but basically they are my spokesperson if I have trouble with the dealer. But it’s not the dealers fault at this point

If mine did that, I'd fix it and send it down the road. If I'm going to have engine problems under 100k miles I may as well go back to VW, at least I get a turbo.

that's exactly what I was thinking. Is this just the beginning of problems. Will it be just as good once its back together? Part of me loves the truck. The other part says once its all part and put back its never gonna be the same

Why wouldn’t it be the same it’s just the top of the motor. If it’s done right it will be good as new

It sounds like the dealer is doing all they can to assist you.

If Toyota somehow dropped the ball perhaps it might be reasonable to expect some compensation for your inconvenience (although I wouldn't bet on it).

The entire world is struggling with supply chain issues from air filters to zip ties, if Toyota had the parts to sell you I'm sure they would be happy to, this issue however is far beyond their control.

This sucks. I would be pissed they did not know earlier in the repair a gasket kit would be needed. The fact they are covering rental and repairs,I would not see them covering payments. you may want to check lemon laws, but a lot depends on the state and situation

Some Toyota parts are getting hard to find. I do auto claims. A car is going on 3 months now at the shop waiting for the airbag ecu to become available. Crazy times right now.

Think of it this way .When your brakes go bad to a point that you need new rotors , pads, shims and pins , you replace them correct ? Do you think about it afterwards. No not really . When we talk about a motor it’s the same thing . If all else is ok ( and I’m sure it is ) the heads will get fixed and I would think any other gasket that is suspect . Probably new plugs and fresh antifreeze . It should be totally fine if the person who fixes it does the right thing . I wouldn’t think one day about it afterwards

brake components are wear and tear items, not covered under warranty. Power train warranty’s are extended for a reason. Not really Apples and Apples.

You can’t really compare brakes to an engine rebuild. A lot more precision goes into an engine rebuild. Humans do make mistakes, quite often.

Warranties are basically insurance. So along those lines; if someone smacks into your vehicle, their insurance (should) cover it. Maybe even put you in a loaner if it takes awhile. But I'm pretty confident they're not going to make your truck payment during that time. Sucky? You betcha. But this is the world in which we live.
