As title states, my beloved 2018 DCLB TRD Off-Road was stolen out of my driveway last night. Police flagged it going into Mexico so .0001% chance it is ever seen again. I spent years modding it and building it out to my perfection. Insurance quoted me a 28k paycheck which I think is BS, and will fight for more (only 60k miles), but I am absolutely at a loss on what to do here. Quick scan at the used marketplace as DCLBs are hard to come by (at a reasonable price), but that may be the only option. Regardless, I intend to mod it exactly the way I had my previous truck (shell, surf racks, 255/80/17 wildpeaks, etc as pictured). In the off chance for anyone thats been in my shoes, how did you go about it? Is it worth the extra dollar to shell out and buy one new? Any insight appreciated. Thank you guys. Pic for nostalgia.

28k is a load of crap. Sorry you have to deal with that

Didn't even mention - but I probably had 2-3k worth of surf gear in the back... UGH. Thanks for the condolences

they should provide you 3 listing comps for how they based their pricing. I would ask for the sheets. What they try to do is list SR/SR5 and then throw a little money at it and say thats comparable

Start doing your own research and provide your own comps/listings for comparable trucks. See if you can tempt a dealership to help you in the hopes they will sell you a new truck with your insurance payout. (lie to them is best)

I appreciate the insight. On top of that they claim to have some protection around vehicle additions, which I absolutely do between the shell, wheels, and tires. Will be sure to hit both points. Thanks again.

No money, all went to truck...
I would inquire with you homeowners insurance also. Sometimes homeowners insurance will cover items inside the truck.

You can find a private car adjuster to help settle it with your insurance. The agent's job is to have you accept the least as much as possible.

push button start, just need to steal the frequency (if you dont keep your fob in a faraday cage ) and replicate it.

Don’t even have a car and I already ordered a faraday cage. I keep my keys 100 yards + away from where I park it in the driveway. I also live on a dead end so thought this was low risk but they’re getting good.

its like they used to steal credit card freq. all the guy had to do is know you drive a tacoma and steal the frequency when he was near you. Probably knew where you normally parked (we are all creatures of habit)

Claims adjusters have 2 things on their mind: close the open work order out quickly and pay as little as possible.
When you start having them drag it out they start offering more to get it closed.
You're not going to get much if anything for the accessories if they weren't called out on the policy, likely $1000 extra for "contents"
Point out that its going to also cost delivery for a replacement because they aren't local. Find the ones in say 500 miles and 1 year newer 1 year older, in +10/-5k mileage. Don't forget dealer fees and tax in your value. The adjuster will pull DMV sales info and low ball on that as a starting point(just so you know where there # is coming from)

Source? I've had 3 trucks stolen in the last 10 years

f250 was offered 18k, ended up getting 26k
    raptor offered 24, got 30
trailblazer offered 4 got 8 and kept it when it was recovered

No way would I file a homeowners claim for $2-$3k of personal items, especially in the CA homeowners climate today.

Most policies cover $1k of aftermarket equipment/modifications. If you want more coverage, you have to add it and pay an additional premium for it. Many companies limit how much additional coverage you can have for mods. My company max is $5k, which is what I have on my 23 Tacoma.

Also, keep in mind that mods do not add dollar for dollar value, and in many cases, add no value at all.

That was a great looking truck you had. :(

Turn off your key fobs by double clicking the unlock button while holding down the lock button when you lock it.
