You could wire up a kill switch in a secret spot if you want some additional security.

Damn man, very sorry to hear. Hope you’re able to square it away quickly. Definitely pull some numbers for your model/trim to get that insurance estimate where it should be.

You don’t need a faraday gimmick to turn off the transmitter on the key fob, just hold the lock button down and press unlock twice quickly, and the fob will blink twice and turn off. This is in the manual also.

To turn it back on just hit any button and it will work. It saves the battery also if you do that nightly, and also to store your spare fob.

Anyways, they probably hacked it through the OBD2 port, no fobs needed.

    My 2021 SR5 doen't have that push-button stuff on it. I won't have it.
Whilst looking at the Tacoma I did look at the TRD Trims and saw that push-button on it and
said no-way. Push-button start and start-stop b.s. are instant deal killers for me.

I'd be pissed about losing those wheels and wildpeaks too.

Lobby for as much out of insurance as you can could get and try to find a low mile 2023.

But these trucks were built in Tijuana, should be plenty there. Maybe the cartels prefer 3rd gen?

Sorry Jamie! Definitely get prices on all the add-ons, and comps too. I got a lot more covered when my Westfalia bus got stollen, insurance paid for the custom wheels, the camping gear and all my other personal gear in it too. Good luck!

I tend to wait until I am right at the truck to click the unlock button (key style), I wonder if that helps reduce frequency duplication (as opposed to across the lot)?

That’s some valuable info, thanks for sharing. Just tried this with my 2023 fobs and it worked. Walked up to the truck with both fobs- the light stayed off and the door didn’t automatically unlock when I put my hand on it.

I have had several problems with more than one insurance company. Insurance is such a scam. They are always in positions to never lose just like banks. I hate insurance companies and banks. Good luck with your situation.

In some ways that makes you more attractive to rob. I grew up in a small town with little if any such stuff happening and over time it started to happen. If I'm a thief I'd rather go someplace I might find some nice things (and maybe people that are not strict about security) versus a place I might get shot at if I'm caught.

The TRD Off Road trim (and I would assume the Sport trim) with the manual transmission have the turn-key ignition setup. I could imagine some failure modes where leaving the truck parked with it in gear with the use of a push-button start might accidentally propel the truck forward.
