Those guys are not getting key fob frequencies when they’re being pushed, it’s when the key fob is passively transmitting itself that it allows you to unlock a car.

Sorry OP this sucks! I used to live in North County and never really worried about theft even living in Escondido. Thieves are the worst scum bags. Long story short but we had our travel trailer stolen off the 99 in south Sacramento. Luckily I had my boards on my truck and not in the trailer. It sucks now but give it time, you’ll build something better. Insurance sucked to deal with as I bought the trailer pre COVID for cheap and thought my payout would reflect the current market when it got stolen in 2021. The insurance agent told me I needed to monitor the market and continually update my coverage so I get the current market value. I don’t think anyone does that and neither did I.

Oh and when we filed our claim our homeowners insurance covered the cost of all the goods that were stolen. I didn’t have to provide receipts or anything. We have our homeowners insurance for our house in Idaho so not sure how California insurance differs.

A good dog might’ve heard them, way better than everyone packing heat, you’re sleeping or in shower or whatever. I’m not into killer cujo dogs but a Belgian Shepard is really nice. My in laws were breeding them for a bit, great with the family. Plus nice and warm most of the time in Cali, great for them sleeping outside, a proper trained dog won’t sit outside and bark Randomly all night, only when shits about to hit the fan haha.

I do keep a HF driveway monitor stuck on my travel trailer with a magnet on the back, also have it facing my truck and the receiver is in my bedroom. If you do this, put it chest high so cats don’t set it off.

I lived in Carlsbad. I'm in Texas now. I surfed all up and down from IB to Oregon. I feel you man. Sorry about your loss. It fucking sucks.

When my 2017 got stolen, the retards crashed into a head-on and ran. Insurance paid me out $34-35k, but I also had extra equipment insurance for all of the mods I made. I cataloged them all, presented it to the adjuster, and didn't even have to fight about it. Then I took a few days to find another Tacoma and a newer model and got a 2021 for about $31k at a dealer in Orange County. The rest went into re-mods. Almost back to where I was. This was November of 2023. I left CA because of this kind of bullshit increase in crime, costs, everything. Never looking back or coming back other than to visit. Good luck, hombre.

If nobody wants to steal it, how come 3 different sets of persons over the past 5 years have tried their best to steal it?

Purchased Toyota Certified, with Vijay bumpers, additional lights, and Falken Wildpeaks on Fuel rims. Prev owner apparently painted the grill.
    It makes no difference.

The fact that you can open the locked door just by walking up to it, tells you that the key is transmitting a signal to the vehicle. The thieves are using radios to duplicate that signal and retransmit it.

I hate the radio keys. 'H-key' for the win - my manual came that way, and I am SO happy for it.

I don't have the full electric key, just the metal "key" with clicker on it. Mine does NOT unlock when I walk up to it, hence the question. Sill wondering if key/clicker style is always transmitting or *only when the unlock button is pressed.

OK, so I did a little digging around and discovered that the "problem" FOB's as far as always transmitting so data can be stolen are just the push to start style. They are called proximity keys/prox keys. The other clicker key that utilizes an actual key to start is called a transponder key and only transmit code when clicked to lock/unlock. They sound like they are a bit more secure, but are lower tech.
