Hello all, longtime lurker finally looking to get into a 3rd gen. Prefer a DCSB TRD OR 4x4 6MT, but the manuals are very hard to find around here. Today I came across one locally so I went to see it. I just wanted to drive a manual truck to see how it is. I come from the car world and my DD is a 6spd German sport sedan.

Anyways, I found this truck and took it for a drive. The deal is, apparently the dealer manager told me that the truck was "accidentally" advertised online with a lower online-only price and that it was a "mistake". And that because I came in today asking about it, they would honor it, but only today. Tomorrow the price goes up. He says this is the only new manual DCSB V6 truck in the Gulf States Toyota area (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas) and other dealers are calling asking to buy it at sticker. This all seemed like a pathetic sales pitch to me, but he really didn't seem to mind when I said I will not commit same day on the spot. I asked if they would give me 24 hours, he said no. Whatever, I won't be pressured into a sale. If it was a TRD OR, I may have done it, just because it's fully loaded and comes with extras such as clear bra, window tint, nerf bars, etc, AND it's a 6MT. And, being a 2018, it qualifies for the $1500 rebate or 0% financing.

Long story short, I am curious if y'all think this really is a good deal or not. What I really liked about this truck was that, apart from being 6MT, it was really loaded with all options and a few extras. Biggest drawback for me was that it was a TRD Sport, and I really want a TRD OR. Plus I would prefer Blazing Blue Pearl, though Cement is also a nice color.

    The truck:
    • 2018 DCSB V6 4x4 6MT
    • TRD Sport
    • Technology Package
    • Premium Package
    • Tonneau cover
    • Towing package
    • TRD blackout package
    • Nerf bars
    • Clear bra on front paint areas
    • Window tint
Online price before taxes, registration, etc: $38,945 + $399 window tint = $39,344

Thoughts? Is it really such a deal?

No. You did well to not buy it. It has 4000$ of fluff. Terrible deal. You should be able to get a fully loaded mt off-road for 36k tops

Terrible 'deal'. You were smart to step away. The crap that dealers will tell ya! To give you an idea, mine is a 6MT OR with Tech and Prem packages but just the TRD shift knob as a 'port' option - I paid $35,000 + TTL. Now, that will require some negotiation to get there, but it should be doable.

I just looked up that exact trick on kbb which I know is just a general guideline to car pricing, but that dealership is not giving you a deal at all. Not even a little bit. They're asking MSRP according to kbb.Screenshot_20180913-202744_Chrome.jpg

    Paid $32,276, OTD $35,280. 17’ DCSB TRD OR 4x4 6MT, Tow Package.

Definitely took negotiating and driving 500 miles away.

Paid $30,937 before TTL for a TRDOR 4X4 MT with tech and all weather mats. They’re doing deals on 18’s, cast a wide net and be willing to drive.

You got a heck of a deal. What state do you live in? Not sure if something like that is possible here in Southern CA. I definitely did a crap ton of research too.

Should be able to do better on an ‘18. 2019s are already hitting dealer lots.

He’ll call back. They always call back. I got told in Davis, CA that paying MSRP was the deal of a lifetime (it was marked up $6,000.. lol). Sales rep called for two weeks.

I got my 6spd MT cement offroad at dealer cost minus the destination fee. That dealer is smoking crack.

You did well to walk away, not even close to being a deal.

They can be bought below MSRP, there are many, many of us that have... even in SoCal... Shop around a lot, be prepared to drive (after negotiating online first)... and if you want the OR, then find an OR... don't settle

Oh and the obligitory Welcome to TW!

Figured it wasn’t in CA. Florida is a whole other market place for Tacoma’s. Out here in CA they are hot.

Lol if I heard half of that I would have just walked away from him and went back out front to find another salesman. A guy like that can't sell me anything.

This was my favorite sales tactic when I was in California. It’s a Tacoma, not a 1G muscle car. The fact that markup is routinely paid in California hurts my head.

I just paid $32,500 for my '18 MT OR w/Tech. They will go about 2k under invoice to make their numbers if they are thirsty.

That's where mine came from. Village to be exact. Georgia only had one or two at the time and they had steps on them.

Thanks all for the feedback and welcome. That's exactly what I was thinking as well. Glad I passed. Can't believe how cheap some of you bought these trucks for. I am seeing bone stock used trucks going for more? Even in the for sale section of this very forum.

Sales manager called back saying Gulf States Toyota has one blue TRD OR 6MT. I asked if it had Tech and Premium packages. He is to get back with me on details and price tomorrow. Given my experience thus far I am not expecting a great deal but I am willing to at least hear what they're offering.

What sucks is I really want a Blazing Blue Pearl truck with both premium and tech packages AND TRDOR AND 6MT. Most TRD OR trucks in this color I see are not fully loaded and almost none are 6MT. But since Toyota is discontinuing the color for 2019 I can't even order one to my specs.

I am prepared to travel anywhere in the lower 48 to buy it for the right deal.

I paid $31,892 before TT&T in July for an 18 DCSB 6 Speed Offroad. 2nd time purchasing from Koons Toyota in Virginia. 12 hour round trip but saved a couple thousand vs dealing with the local dealers that wont budge off MSRP.

Also, they have quite a few manuals on the lot.
