2018 Factory Order - Allocation Confirmation

Hey all, I just got my truck on April 26th, I had put my deposit down in early February, got an order date of mid March and final delivery end of April. Its was definitely hard to be patient, but it worked out and I got the exact truck I wanted, 2018 TRD off road MT with Premium and tech pack, and with only 1 mile on the clock. Just keep bugging your sales person and asking for all the details.

 

9 weeks between when I first met with the dealer and they delivered it to me. Was delivered to the dealer ship in 8 weeks. My dealer had an allocated build that was close to the DCSB SR5 I wanted. Got exactly what I ordered.

 

Wow, had no idea M/T's were so hard to come by in other states. They're much easier to come by in Colorado, Local dealer has 12 M/T DCSB TRDOR's and 1 M/T DCSB Sport...

Geez. That dealership is sitting on 251 Tacoma's. Wow. That must be a well oiled machine.

 

This I discovered and is why i wound up looking at the Sport.. Seems strange that ORDC are available with MT buy not AC. It's all good. Just hoping I'm not still waiting in November.

 

Supposedly, my build date was moved up to May 11th. Woot woot.

 

Just got the news today, my truck has been built and is on it's way. Estimated delivery is by the 23rd!

 

How'd you find that out? Did the dealer call you? Did you find out when it actually started being built? How long did it take to actually build? Sorry for the 3rd degree. Mine, supposedly, starts getting built tomorrow. Kinda anxious.

 

No problem on the 3rd degree, you're probably just as excited as me about finally getting the truck.

I called my salesman after I got home from work today and when he logged into and checked in the system, it showed that it shipped from the factory (Mexico) yesterday.

I was supposed to find out when it started getting built, but my salesman didn't call me (he was on vacation, and I guess he asked someone else to check and call me and they didn't).

I went into the dealership on 3/5/18 to put down my deposit, and I believe they put the order in the next day (since it was like 7PM EST when I left). Build date was probably earlier this week, I didn't ask for that info though because it's on the way.

I think Toyota ships pretty quick after the build date though, they did pioneer the JIT manufacturing process after all.

 

Ordered on Sunday. Would have been here tomorrow but the port forgot some stuff. So they are shipping it back. :/

 

Nice for you. I called dealer today and allocation should be next week. Hard part for me is my buyers remorse. Right deal?? Right truck?? Worth the wait?? And it goes on for 3 months!!
Meanwhile I'm driving a sweet 11tx. Hard to part with. All good. Can't wait for my new cement sport.

 

For someone (like me) considering ordering one (Access Cab TRD OR with Premium & Tech, Quicksand), just what exactly is the process?? I'm in the Gulf States.

Fill out a form, give a deposit, annoy the dealer daily till it shows up?

Honestly, I hate walking into a situation like this blind, so what are the details I should be aware of going in...

 

I honestly went to a dealer who had a truck i was interested in and found out it was sold. Got into a conversation about if ordering was a possibility and boom. Gonna take a bit but , $500 down and order placed. We'll see how it plays out.

Pretty much. What I did was go in and test drive one to make sure it was what I liked, then told the salesman exactly what I wanted. It wasn't available anywhere he could see in the dealer network, so he said they'd have to order it.

We worked out a final price, and then I gave him a deposit. I set the expectation that we'd have a weekly update by email until the truck shipped, and for the most part he kept up with sending me a status update once a week even if there wasn't any changes.

Orders take months potentially, but usually if what you want is similar enough to something already allocated they try to change it before it gets built into what you want. My order took just over 2 months from when I put the deposit down until it was built.

 

So the dealer told me it would be here sometime between today and Monday. I haven't heard anything from them yet but i noticed my truck was posted on Toyota's inventory on their website this morning, hopefully ill be getting a call soon.

 

Awesome! Mine is supposed to get here by next Wednesday, but they think the truck it's on is going to be here around Monday or Tuesday. Did the factory add everything you asked for? I ask because mine didn't get the steps I requested added in the factory, so now I'm having to source them from another source.

 

You'll probably be able to get the steps cheaper. They'll charge msrp if they're on the sticker. Even my dealership gave 20% off for anything purchased the first month.

 

Yeah they added everything i asked for, at least that is what is looks like. I am getting the TRD wheels as well as the cat back exhaust which are items that the dealer orders and puts on the truck once it arrives so those wont show up online. I'm not sure if that's how the steps would work as well, but i wouldn't be surprised. Did the dealer tell you that the side steps are factory installed? Im sure they could order the ones you want for you and install them after the fact for the same prince you agreed on.
