i know what they say... do you believe what they say? the only sense i can find in that statement is MB playing hardball because they have the only right combo of reliability & power. but i can't figure why any the other manufacturers go along or why the FIA essentially favors MB by enforcing this?

The FIA makes the rules , the teams all opposed the drop from 4 engines to 3

so where does all the power in that decision come from? Todt alone? do you know how the voting power works at the FIA? that's an awful lot of power directing potentially billions in manufacturer R&D etc..

Not sure what you mean , the FIA governs F1 and makes the rules decisions , teams get to lobby for changes through the strategy group but ultimately the FIA sets the rules

yeah i know about it but I'm just curious who holds and exercises this kind of power at the FIA. Todt is the president, but that doesn't mean it's all in his hands. this kind of power is huge over the manufacturers in many ways, so I'm simply curious who the power holders are and how that works. I'm guessing the manufacturers are the rest of the board Todt votes with... who else?

anyway, just a curiosity to me. good night.

They've had major shakeups at the top of the org. But, McLaren. I have hope.

    Hahahahaha! Funny!!

Whats so funny about that ? Thats the reasoning behind all of the limited engines per season rules since they were adopted. Fact .

It has nothing to do with budgets. That's what's funny.

still, I'm agreeing that 3-4 months in more than half the teams will be going nuts and pointing fingers everywhere from the 3 PU limit craziness. v10's are sounding better than ever in more ways than one.

The limited power units per season rules were introduced to stop teams from going through 3 or 4 engines per weekend like they used to do in the old days as an effort to control costs on the engine side of things and an attempt to reduce the disparity between the have and have not teams when it comes to their budgets for engines .

    Thats a fact jack

    Damn you!!

I just spent several minutes writing a reply to this thread the argues to NOT limit money in F1. Then I read this quote here. I realize that you are right and there should be some kinda rule about the number of PU's.

    Hats off @OZ-T.

The real question is what will the penalties be this year. Last year there was a lot of dislike of the huge grid place penalty system. So what happens when a driver gets engine number 4 or 5 or 6 this year?

I believe the grid penalties per power unit item are the same

That would be the sporting thing to do but I believe their goal is to motivate the teams to increase reliability and thereby decrease costs and if they don't then they are screwed. It's the FIA's game and everyone has to play by their rules whether they like it or not.

Great :facepalm:I feel like the team/manufacturer should be penalized, but not the driver. What part does the driver have in it?

Generally, unless you are the top tier teams. But lets say Riccardo is given a 25 place penalty for replacing multiple parts. The driver didn't have anything to do with the change or failure. Why penalize him in the drivers championship from starting at the back. A better approach might be losing a constructor point for each change past 3 or something.
