2018 Formula 1 Season Paddock

I don't know what it is with sports guys and their statistics. They always have to know more and more no matter how mundane or inane. For me I just need the visual excitement.

 

Time for a 2019 thread?

 

If one gets started, I would sure appreciate a link pointing to it in here. This has been a great thread to follow, 93 pages of posts, and I don't want to miss the '19 thread.

On the other side of the coin, if Hulkenburg's car spewed fuel and caught fire while he was trapped upside down in Abu Dhabi he could have sustained more burns trying to get out from under the halo.

 

On the other hand , when is the last incidence of a fuel tank rupture in F1 since they went to fuel bladders ?

 

I wouldn't know, but if the cars can catch fire from hot brakes or a hot exhaust then it's not out of the realm of possibility that a broken fuel line can happen and cause a fire. I was just making the point that one of the main downsides to the halo is that it hinders the driver from escaping. Especially when upside down. Also that camera they have from under the halo during races sucks. Can barely see anything.

 

The camera angle is set to change next season IIRC , the camera positions had already been set in the rules prior to the adoption of the halo

 

The last time I recall seeing flames in F1 was when they were still refueling during the race. And that happened in the pits. Just sayin.

 

I should add something here. When I was a kid my dad took me to see the 1964 Indy 500, live, as it happened, on a huge movie theater screen. It was in black & white but it didn’t matter.
