Noticed the same and no one else even mentioned it. Looks like the frame was fucked up on a lift or something.

Wire brush then paint it. For the future, get 8-10 cans of Fluid Film and coat everything then DONT wash the underside as you'll just remove the Fluid Film. Just let it stay and you're good. Do this each year.

    OP,

Can you take more pictures underneath and behind the frame rail?

I’m just now noticing the two areas on the bottom of the rail, still looks like surface rust but I can’t tell.

Like others have said it was probably caused by a lift or strap.

I think it got scratch before developing rust. You can tell is only on that spot. You can remove the surface rust, respray and you are good to go. I would suggest fluid filmed the under body afterwards.

I have rust around my truck too (2017). I think these 3rd gens are a little more prone to rusting.

You need your man card revoked.

Take 10 minutes out of your day and fix it yourself.

Looks like when the truck was lifted up it caused some paint to come off when the lift shifted a little.

    Here’s some more pics.

Brushing it and painting it is no big deal the only reason I asked about the dealership is because the truck isn’t even a year old yet. So if I’m going to pay 35k+ for a vehicle, I would expect it to not rust in 8 months

I’ll have to look at my truck, is that a silicone that was smeared on the underside of the frame?

That seems like more than just some rubbed paint from transport tie-downs. I'd clean out the silicone. Wouldn't want water pooling there. I'd personally not be happy if a dealer delivered a truck with damage like that. It's inevitable but I'd want to be the one who did it. Unless that's part of Toyota's new undercoating?

Screw it. Tell the dealer you want a new frame.

I'd be pissed too if my year old truck looked like that underneath...Your dealer has some 'splaining to do.

My god people, its a frame. Even if the paint was scratched from rock chips, over time especially in the northern regions where salted roads are prevalent, surface rust is definitely possible. Even on a brand new car. Its just how the world works. Quit being little pansies--trying to place blame on something that you don't even know how it would happen, clean it off and spray paint. Move on.
