The 17 pro grille and the 18 look identical to me besides the plexi glass cover that is absent on the 17.

Here is a pic of a OEM 17 pro grille. It has the protective cover that you are claiming is not on 17's and it also has the holes for the cable ties for the radar sensor.

It seems like the plexi cover on the 2018 grille replaces that whole section of plastic. I think you might be able to cut that section out on the China grille, it would take some dremel skillz to do it though. I guess until we have the oem plexi piece it’s all just a guess right now.

Hmmm. So it sounds like that sensor isn't compatible with the '17 grille then...to me. Let me know what conclusion you come to. Thx for the work! :benchpress:

Do you have a OEM grille or a knock off from ebay?

I've been looking at my Chinese grill and I think yiur going to have to remove the plastic part in front. It you look closely at the back of the grill where the sensor goes there are two tabs the hold the front plastic on. There are also two locating pins that have been melted. If you carefully grind the melted portion of the pins away the plastic part should push out and remove from the front. It doesn't look that difficult. You can use the plastic part to trace out a replacement piece of plexi glass. I'm going to check today and see if Toyota offers the part separate from the grill.

The online parts dealers are starting to carry the plexiglass piece as well: https://www.royalsouthparts.com/oem-parts/toyota-garnish-radiator-gr-5314135060

I believe the plexiglass piece should solve the problem. When you put your sensor on the 17 Pro grill, you are putting it behind the plastic grid pieces which has different density and sharp angles (radar does not like sharp angle, e.g. stealth airplanes). The plexiglass is a flat solid piece with the same density throughout the radar area.

Other people have got their radar to work on a 17 Pro grill, but just because it works without errors doesn't mean it's working correctly.

lets us know when you get it to see how it works. That should just be a plug in with the 17 pro grill?

I swapped out my 2018 off road grille for a 2017 pro grille + the little plexi piece to cover the holes like post #26.. and the sensor works fine. I've been on two road trips and dirt roads with it, works great. I did use a super fancy ultra clear $ grade of lexan for the hole covers, if you use any ol' crappy clear plastic to cover those holes it might not work as well and think the sensor is dirty.
Maybe it's calibration luck of the draw :transformer:
